M2014 Gauss Vs. DSG-1

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 11:03 am

Guys what do you think is better and why?
I seem to think the Gauss is a heavier class sniper rifle than the DSG-1.
The thing about the Gauss is that it has a much lower rate of fire than the DSG-1 whilst it has pretty much the same damage output. On a side note - it seems the gauss has a better stopping power (object penetration) than the DSG-1.

The only advantage the Gauss has right out of the gate is the larger magazine - which isnt really that big of a deal.

However the thing that breaks the Gauss is the slow bullet travel time. From what it says about the gun in the in-game statistics, is that the projectile is accelerated to super fast speed - well it sure dosent seem like it!

To conclude: Gauss is a good weapon, no doubt about that, it is jsut harder to kill enmies which are running horizontally or diagonally to your position.

How to make the Gauss more viable gun choice: Increase projectile speed OR make it 1 hit kill to the stomach, chest and head when enemy is not armoured

DSG-1 kills: 821 (and this is not my highest kill weapon :D )
Gauss kills: 27 (lol i have more but the game didnt let me unlock the challanges i was using it at lvl 37 i also got it today)

Your take on this?

Yeah, I expected the Gauss to be a railgun type one-shot kill weapon with a very slow rate of fire, but it seems it's just a weaker sniper rifle. The last tier unlocks generally stink. C4 might be a bit more powerful but it is in all ways inferior to the JAW, especially since you only get one charge by default. The microwave gun would do okay on a stealth char since it retains perfect accuracy when fired from the hip, but the limited range means it becomes a glorified melee button.

I love sniping in this game, I love close range in this game, I love just about everything about this game...

but the Gauss rifle is pointless I made a post about it before, how in C1 the Gauss killed everyone in 1 hit that was in cloak+speed+power and 2 hits for armor or nomode

in C2, the dsg1 raqes the absolute **** out of the gauss for a few reasons:
Faster fire rate
Same damage
Same amount of bullets(11 with extended clip)
Better mobility
ANDDDDDD
No blue smoking bullet tracer leading all the way back to where you are lighting you up like a christmas tree

Only ways to make the gauss worth it?
3-4 bullets per clip
slightly slower fire rate
1 hit kills on everything cept armor and no mode(standing still :P)

And that should fix its uselessness... and im not even gonna start about the damn MIKE gun

You kidding? I just randomly decided to snipe with the DSG-1 without ever having done it before and I went like, 17-0 on a game at Lighthouse. It has a fast rate of fire and only takes two shots.

Doesn't surprise me that people think the gun's **** so no one actually aims in Crysis, you just spray and wait for the single magic bullet to hit them in the head.

Right this is kind of direct comparison between Gauss and DSG-1

Clip Size - Gauss
Rate of Fire - DSG-1
Variety of attachments - BOTH (but DSG-1 has a nice silencer whilst Gauss has useless holo)
Damage - Same
Mobility - DSG-1
Stealth - DSG-1 (silencer + no massive blue tracer)
Hit detection - DSG-1 (Gauss'es hit detection is weird IMHO)
Reload time - I THINK DSG-1

Overall: I'd only use the gauss for the challange EXP - DSG-1 rules the world.

I hate how I waited for this gun for so long only to be so damn dissapointed! The MIKE is also uber fail and don't even mention the L-TAC.
