Nanosuit upgrades disappearing?

First post here, so bear with me...Anyway, singleplayer:

I have been playing on the highest difficulty setting. It makes the game more challenging IMO. Anyway, I don't know how far in I am - I think the level is called Power Struggle. Near the end of that part you have to hold the aliens back, not letting them past a wall, and there are a bunch of them.

Well, after finishing that level you meet up with some marines that are to be airlifted out of there. All of a sudden one of those tower things comes out of the ground and you have to go inside and float/climb to the top and do something. After that you get into the Vtol or whatever and fly away. Now plans change and you are to be dropped out to whoop some more ass on some island. Well, the Vtol is low on fuel and they fly low along some water where you bail out and a new level begins (I don't know the exact name). Well, it is like my character is starting all over again. I have only 2900 nano points and my suit has zero upgrades. I had many of the upgrades before this happened and now they are all gone - along with the nano points I had saved up for my next upgrade.

I also noticed that the weapons now have crosshairs, which I had disabled. So I went back and disabled them, no problem. Now I notice the difficulty isn't as tough as it was. So now I go to the difficulty setting and the only option is "recruit" which is pretty low I think.

What the hell happened? Why did my character and the game seem to take a giant leap back. I was having a good time until this happened - all I had worked for throughout the game just disappeared. WTF?

Also, on an unrelated topic - my game will play great for 20 minutes or two hours, but eventually the screen will go black for a few seconds and when it returns the FPS is less than half of what it should be and the screen is jumpy and laggy. Restarting the PC fixes it. I have been playing on the extreme setting and getting between 75 and 90FPS since the SLI patch at eVGA came out. My system is more than capable of handling this game but this happens everytime I play. Like I said - sometimes it happens twenty minutes in, sometimes it is two hours...I can't figure it out.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope it makes some sort of sense to someone that can help. I am sort of in a hurry and wanted to just get the gist of my problem written here. If there are any questions, please, feel free to ask. Thanks again.

EDIT: Even after going back to ANY saved game I only have 2900 nano points and ALL of my attributes are gone. I feel like I have wasted many hours on a game only to have it turn around and **** me. Crysis, you svck. Thanks for nothing...
