Many engines can do the same as each other these days, it just depends on how they are coded, all it means is that if a developer has it's own engine, they can maximize profits from not having to license it themselves, while licensing it to others.
This is what coding is all about, trying to create new code, while copying others and editing it to look original.
Also as some one pointed out, some developers just change some code, make it do something else than the original intended then rename existing engines as their own.
The Quake engines for example were well known for this.
That makes sense. What I noticed in Crysis 2 is the Grenade throw, and BC2 grenade through is similar in many ways. Both companies are publish by EA, so I thought maybe this was the case. I am finding out that Crytek is an independent developer and Dice is owned by EA. Crytek can farm out their coding to other developers. I am keeping my fingers crossed that BF3 is not buggy like Crysis 2. If I start seeing some similarities in game play, I will be disappointed.
The only time I'd be worried about the Battlefield franchise is if Activision brought it. lol
EA only produces the games, except for where they do own the company, so Crysis 2 being so bad is Cryteks fault as the made it.
EA is only to blame for bad customer service, and if they forced Crytek to release the game unfinished as it obviously was, due to leaked Beta's as far as this game is concerned.
