Graphical problems with 1.8 patch on ATI CrossFire

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 1:33 pm

The first game I spawned into after applying the 1.8 patch was a blurry mess, seemed like motion blur was stuck on full blast even when I'm standing still looking at a wall, I had to cut if off before I ruined my eyes, so I went back and set everything to 'High' in the so called advanced graphics, but guess what, flickering is back! and it brought along its good buddy named artifacts too!!!

I managed to get one game running normal on skyline after about 5 tries, and my FPS dipped to the 20s in some parts of the map when I was just walking around, no shooting, no explosives, just EPIC.

So now it's either motion blur hurr durr, flickerano & artifacto duo, or slideshow performance. I was honestly looking forward to some improvements in graphics performance and being able to tweak them, but now I'm left with an unplayable mess.

I've tried to set the advanced graphics all to 'Very High' and 'Extreme' but all ended up with same result. And here's the catcher, in the one game that the graphics were normal, everything was set to 'High' in the advanced graphics, I didn't touch anything in between transition to next map, yet the next map spawned with unbelievable flickering.

On the other hand...for some random reason, singleplayer seems to be working just fine...

I'm running twin HD5850s in CrossFire with Catalyst 11.5

EDIT: nevermind about playing fine in singleplayer...it's F'd up too, completely.

I'm running radeon HD4850 mobility and it still flickers for me. I feel like the execs at Crytek are rolling in their money laughing at us.

TheMob,

I use a 5970 with CCC 11.5b and immediately after the patch I checked the new "Advanced Graphics" options and my "Post Processing" was set to "Custom". I had no flicker.

I adjusted "Post Processing" to "VERY HIGH" and suddenly horrible flickering everywhere...

I force quit the game (in hopes it would prevent whatever graphics settings I changed from being written out to disk) and restarted the game and my post processing was back to "Custom" and I have no flicker.

So it definitely seems like it's something to do with the post processing settings that is causing the ATI crossfire flickering to return.

I'm afraid to experiment anymore and risk losing whatever my "custom" setting is that keeps the game playable for me.

Another thread (https://secure.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=29620) suggests that the "custom" post processing setting is set everytime you restart the game if you're using a crossfire/sli setup.

So maybe you just need to restart your game?
