This is why I've lost respect for Crytek...

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 4:08 am

While I am happy to see the advanced graphical settings come back into the game (although it took over 2 months to get it) there are issues still present (there are more; this is just the biggest to me since it renders the game unplayable):

THE LIGHTS STILL FLICKER
It's been OVER 2 MONTHS, and there's a thread over 100 pages long, and you still don't know/have fixed what's wrong?! Crytek has even released paid DLC before a MAJOR issue like this has been fixed.

Crytek has acknowledged this issue. To be straightforward: this is unacceptable. I hope one of the DEVs reads this.

Otherwise: Crysis 2 would be a good game.

My PC specs (Alienware M17x R2):

CPU: Intel Core i7 (4 cores; 8 with hyperthreading)
CPU speed: 1.7/3.825 (when other cores are needed & activate)
RAM: 8GB
Resolution: 1900x1200
Graphics: Dual cards (radeon mobility 4850 HD)
*All software is as updated as possible
*Disclaimer: IDC if you don't like Alienware. They are very expensive, but I got what I paid for. This is not the case with this game, an that is the purpose of this post so please focus on that.

Signed,
I very upset PC gamer

You dont like getting ripped off by Crytek but you pull your pants down and bend over for Alienware LOL. Your laptop probably cost over $1200 lmfao.

Two bugs and you want a refund? And yes, you got ripped off buying that Alienware with useless info about your specs.

i7 is just a quad core, yes? It has hyperthreading which then gives 4 'virtual' cores.
Since when did the 4*** series ATI cards support DX11? I thought they only supported DX10.1?

because the guy doesn't know what he's taking about and it's a laptop to top it all off. Yes the GPU mobile chip doesn't support DX11 at all and the CPU is a mobile i7 quad.

This is different because Alienware performs and does what you pay for it. This game is not.

Please don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about which is obviously true in your case and shown by the inaccuracy in your statement. My laptop does support DX11 as shown by my dxdiag information

I personally like Alienware although they are rather expensive, and I am not mentioning all of the bugs. Those two just struck me as the most shocking as they're still in the game.

@JustinBiebers
I'm not sure why you posted that exact same message on another thread, but glad to see some customers still like Crytek (*not being sarcastic*).

Pretty sure that's software DX11, which you have thanks to W7. I used to rock dual 4850s on my desktop, before I (stupidly) upgraded to 2 5850s thinking I would need them for this game. Unless AMD/ATi decided to completely ditch their naming scheme and produced upgraded Mobility 4850s with 5xxx-series GPUs (their first with hardware DX11), I would guess dxdiag is reporting your software version, not hardware. (In case I'm sounding dikeish, it's not the intent and I acknowledge that it's entirely possible I'm wrong, and they DID do something like that. I'm just speaking based on experience with confusing discrepancies in trying to figure out DX versions... I had the same thing back with my first laptop and its radon mobility 1600 (I think it was)).

Also regarding dxdiag reporting 8 CPUs, I agree with the poster who said it's doubled by hyperthreading. Again it is entirely possible I'm wrong, but afaik there are no PC procs on the market with more than 6 cores. I think there are 8-12-core Xeons or Opterons out there, but those are server parts, and certainly wouldn't go into a laptop.

PS that laptop is beastly. I shudder to think how much Alienware charged you for it...

PPS your reply to justinbiebers makes me think you probably paid over 5 Gs for the laptop...

@spameroo
Ill have to ask Alienware about that DX11 software/hardware thing. It's fairl new so it could be that they've incorporated the hardware but again I'm not 100% sure but I have spoken with them before and they said I have DX11 and as you can see it says so on the dxdiag.

As far as the 8 cores goes: you're right, it is doubled by hyperthreading. That was my mistake in alluding to 8 ACTUAL cores. I fixed the original thread.

For the PS: thanks! I actually got a great deal on it by a retailer of Dell products. Go the whole thing (brand new and warranty too) for $2300 I believe and it is fantastic! Plays anything I want it to; although it's rather ironic I'm posting in this forum with a game problem though haha. If bought from the website I think it runs for $4500-$4700 or something like that.
For the PPS: did you mean that particular poster cuz I'm not seeing the connection?

Actually the sound looping in mission after the flooding of New York is now fixed with the latest patch. However they don't mention something very important anywhere. If you patch the game to 1.8 and load the mission, sound will still loop (solders yelling). You have to walk i don't know 300-500 meters and this sound problem will gradually get fixed by itself.

I was also raging how the hell they cannot fix things properly but after i walked a bit around, the sound bug got fixed gradually.
Try moving further through the level and listen if anything changes.

I cannot comment the light flickering issue as i don't have it.

If you don't believe that your GPU doesn't support DX11 and you really want to know if it's a DX11 card. Try downloading Heaven Benchmark and turn on Tessellation, if there is. I guess it'll be greyed out or something since your GPU doesn't support DX11. 5xxx series and beyond supports DX11.

I'll be sure to try that so long as I don't have a seizure from the flickering, haha. Interesting name btw.

@NvidiaGeek
I'm interested. Send over the information on where to download from. I'd like to try it out.

Those GPU's support Dx10.1 only. The reason it say's DX11 in the dxdiag is because that is what it's capable of 'if' you have the correct gpu.
True you can support some parts of DX11 but not tesselation, as someone said, try the heaven benchmark and you'll see.

Yeah, well this is the only one retarded Crytek system accepts. My regular nick was rejected as well as all of the others that i made up. Then i've enetered this and voila. Accepted no problem. Makes you wonder what the hell guys at Crytek are doing. Maybe 2 aliens 1 cup? Must be, otherwise this would be rejected and all the other nicknames accepted...

If your Alienware "gaming" laptop did what you paid for it then it would be a lot more powerful than it is. You paid $2300 for that? You can get a desktop thats MORE powerful for a quarter of the price (one that can do DX11 too).

Youve run two counts of stupidity. The first was wanting a "gaming" laptop. The second was convincing mummy and daddy to buy an Alienware one.

Like I said, you hardly have any grounds to whine when you think Alienware is a good deal.

Here's the software: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1961/Unigine_Heaven_DX11_Benchmark_2.5.html. Install it, run it and post the results.

I bought a gaming laptop and I love it but I made sure I got a good deal and did not pay over 1K for it either. He is a fool for buying from alienware. I am going to bulid a gaming desktop some day after college but till then I am happy with what I got.

Sorry to be so harsh on you but posting the dxdiag like that shows how much you know. You have DX11 but the mobile GPU you have doesn't support DX11, it's only DX10. BTW, every GPU will show that information, doesn't mean the GPU supports DX11.

The Radeon 5850 and 5870 were the first DX11 cards.

It's fine that you don't like Alienware. I could really care less. It performs which is why I bought it and I didn't want a desktop because it can't go where I do. I use it for other purposes.
Again, Alienware does what I paid for it. This game does not.
I'd like to stop arguing about my system and focus back on the bugs this game still has which is the purpose of the post.

@Wrath1972
I see. I was under a different impression. I'll eventually upgrade to the 5850s anyway. Thanks for the clarification. I've updated the original post
