[Advice] Should I buy Retaliation Map Pack? (360)

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 5:43 am

Despite the MP issues the games has, I've been enjoying most of the matches I've played lately. My vacations just started, so I'll have lots of free time.

I'll like to know your thoughts about the Map Pack, is it worth it? I'm undecided mainly because the Online Population seems to be decreasing quite fast and the DLC is just about 140 MB, which makes me wonder how can 4 new maps take such little space, which makes me think they use many of the same assets (recycled).

Thanks for your advice ;)

Having not seem the new maps, and going on personal experience in the field of map and level creation I would never judge a map on its size alone. However reusage of art assets is nothing new and games like CoD have been doing just that for years now with its map pack DLCs. Also at 800 MS points, its a bargain when compared to CoD or Reach with map packs at 1200 points on release.

Im definately buying the map pack as soon as I get more MS points.

I'm holding out for a new patch that fixes things like the grain glitch before I decide whether or not to purchase the map pack. However, if you play this game online a lot and are bored with the same old maps then of course you should get the map pack.

Me too, I'd say the vast majority are doing the same.

No Patch = No Cash.

If you really love the multiplayer, then yeah you should. But be prepared that it might take a while to find a match on these new maps.

I bought it on release and could barely find anyone playing it and struggled to find a game, I gave up and played the old maps instead as I like those anyway.

The design of the new maps are great for the most part, I loved Shipyard and Compound, Park Avenue is ok'ish and Transit is awful. With Transit the map is unreasonably large considering the amount of players in the game. I would have to recharge 3 times to get across the map even using an Elite class. Also everyone loves to snipe which isn't a problem on this game as their useless but because they're sitting still 6km away in stealth you find you're running around all game looking for some action, I don't like it at all.

I usually play this game a lot but I have had exams all week so I will be back on it tomorrow, but my recommendation is that you wait until the maps are intergrated into the normal playlists. That way you will be able to get into a game much more easily and won't have to keep playing the same 4 maps over and over as they will be randomized with the other maps.

The maps are definitely worth 800ms and you will enjoy them, but if you can hardly play them then what's the point. Also some people suggest you don't until they release a patch that fixes something which they've failed to do since release, but I will leave this moral decision to you.

Hope I helped.

I'm enjoying the new maps. I rarely have trouble finding matches in onslaught. Not sure about the other modes though because I haven't tried.

Hmmm.....first of all I wanna say I rarely have any problems with the mp. Though I have to admit it was pretty bad in the beginning. But now everything seems to work fine most of the time. So 98% of the time, I have no problems at all with either playing or finding a game.

Now to the maps. I actually like them, design, size almost everything. But I do have, another problem with them. Why didn′t they add the other maps to those new ones or make this optional. I know it might be problematic to do it the other way around (even though other companies/games were able to do it), since a lot of people won′t buy it (btw no patch no money is a pretty funny thing to say seeing that you already bought the game but that is another thing). Just playing those four maps, gets dull pretty soon.

I also wanna add that I love the new 4 in 1 version adding all the modes except TIA and IA, it is just great, I never realized how much I like to play CTF.( I liked those others already)

Thank You all for the helpful advice. I think I'll wait until the next patch arrives and see how good it's.

I would also like to know a detalied explanation about the "Grain Bug". How does it negatively impacts the game?

;)

i honestly think its worth getting just for Park Avenue alone..i love that map. but ever since the last patch the lag glitches have only gotten worse and with most of the community "waiting" to get the map packs it some times takes a while to find games, especially late at night.

You have made the right choice my friend,I mean no disrespect to the maps & their design although I will not part with another penny (Cents) until Crytek fix the issues that are broken......

Main one for me is latency and inconsistency in match making out of my region bring my ping up to ridiculous levels of shear stupidity.
