It does not work correctly.

you know you can change the melee button in the options......its on "V" by default and if it isn't working correctly its your keyboards fault

No, kigger-niller. There's a melee bug, in the single player that after you die your melee option stops working until you re-start the game.
But crytek is currently working on the graphics and yada yada, so don't expect a fix soon.
