Why dont we have the same graphics in MP and SP

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 8:59 am

Hey,

as I got the game i directly started playing the MP. I was a little disappointed with the graphics. Textures are not looking very good and the overview is not better.
I got bored with the MP and started to play SP. I was just like:"Holy ****, that looks so much better than the MP." The Textures and Details are way better in SP i think (especially on the nanosuit and the weapons).

Now 2 questions:
Why is it that way?

Am I able to get the SP graphics in the MP as well? (by changing smth in the dir., i dont know)

Thank you for answering.

Edit: Quick Example here:

that makes no sense.

you dont transmit graphics data to and from your computer when playing multiplayer.

ROFL. Wow. People on this forum are retards.

OP: i agree. id prefer if things looked sharper like SP. Should be some tweaks/mods to do that at some point... hopefully...

Lowered graphical requirements for multi-player seems logical, in which this is a game that requires fast and precise movement and at a lower frame-rates can be a real bare. It's not like we player the M.P. for it's pretty graphics anyway; I never actually looked to see if they are really different or not though so I can't comment on if it really is better or worse.

And no, graphics don't dictate meaning you need a 100mbps connection, that's just silly. I play on a 32/32 connection myself without a single bit of connection lag; expect the servers themselves lag occasionally lol.

While i agree higher frames is desirable in Mplayer, this shouhld be achievable with changing graphics settings. I dont need 125fps in multiplayer, so i should be able to scale up graphics to SP level if i want. The fact that i cant is pretty lame. Should release 'HD' versions of the multiplayer maps.

Agreed, although that is the issue there, changing the graphics, we can't fine tune or tweak anything which is one thing I was actually quite upset about this game besides hackers in M.P.

Yup. If we had editors and mod tools, the community could make this game everything it should have been. But instead we are stuck playing a game that isnt up to par with a lot of core features missing. Pretty unfortunate.

Did Crytek even announce or say if they are going to release a sandbox editor at all ? I've been wanting to design some maps for Crysis 2.

They said in the past that they will "Support the modding community". Other than that, they have been pretty quiet about it.

Just get the leaked version and start making some maps! Too bad nobody would be able to play them in multiplayer.

Those pictures aren't that good. The ligthing is entirely different in the SP pic than the MP pic. IMO there is no real difference in MP vs SP visually.

I also found this to be kind of disapointing, but the wierd thing is that my performance is actually better in SP.
Extreme in SP=30-60 FPS(depends on wich level i play)
Extreme in MP= unplayable-50 FPS(Again, depends on the map)

MP will always have more dumbed down graphics due to your GPU having to process the sheer amount of players in the game. They take more power to process as they're not generic like AI, they're realtime.

IIRC, real-time or not, it doesn't have anything to do with graphics. Graphics are only what is shown. It doesn't matter what's "inside".

CPU bottleneck maybe?

Lots of people running around and stuff going on in multiplayer perhaps resulting in slow downs vs the handful of AI enemies you see in SP.

Did you even read the message?

Better graphics = lower framerate. It's a cheap balancing technique to cater to lower systems...

High-res textures = more memory used to load

Sharper textures = more AA/AF

More AA/AF = lower framerate

High mem usage + AA/AF = even lower framerate

This pretty much explains it, there is at least 5x-10x more stuff going on in multiplayer at once then compared to a static\dynamic group of AI's. It gets overwhelming during drop zone when people grenade spam and are all together blasting each other like there's no tomorrow; good times.
