Ok. So there is no talk of this, I've seen, of third-person gameplay.
They tease us with the 'Sense of Perspective' ability and this is Bethesda. They made Fallout 3 and Oblivion 4. You know they can do it. You guys know it would be cool. Haven't you thought about it too? Most likely, yes. They could add a mode or put in the options. They don't even have to do that! They can make it an ability. It could be a buff! The operative doesn't have a buff maybe it could be his. They could add it in a DLC later on.
Anyway, I just thought I'd make my statement and I hope we can convince Bethesda and Splash Damage on this.
Well leave me your comments and if you play PSN I'll see you on the battlefields. PSN ID is same as posting name.

Bethesda are the publishers, not the developers, and third-person was *#&$ in both the games you mentioned.. It would also spoil the point of it being a first-person shooter. You can't see around the corner unless your character can see around the corner.

Sense of perspective is the ability to look around while doing something, not the ability to go third-person with control of your character.

I would like a third-person replay mode though...

I don't think they were "*#&$" and yeah I know they are the publishers. And I know this is a first-person shooter but they said they wanted to end genres. Now I'm not saying to make it also a RPG, which it kinda is, or an RTS. I'm just saying that the ability to play it third-person as an OPTION would be expertly awesome. It would appeal to a bigger variety of gamers that's for sure. Like the gamers like me, those games like Metal Gear Online or Demon Souls (which if you aren't on the PS3 you wouldn't know these games). Those games are loved by their gamers and a very big reason is for its POV of the game, at least that my thought. So adding a third-person OPTION would be ideal. For me and some other gamers.

Also who doesn't want to their bad#$& character doing parkour around the maps?

Hell yeah that would be good... you'd soon see how cool SMART is to watch - too busy during mission to appreciate the visuals of it properly

Demon's Souls is a melee-focused game, and MGS is a stealth game - they have a different focus to straight shooters.

In FPS games, being able to turn on a third-person view is generally considered cheating, because it gives players with that view an unfair advantage of being able to see around corners without having to be in line of sight - that effectively makes multiplayer into a cover-based popup-shooter instead of the fast-paced action that FPS games have. Even if they don't have a cover system.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that kind of game, third-person games are great, and if you want an example of a fun third-person shooter that ISN'T about stealth or melee, take a look at Red Faction: Guerrilla. Makes the destruction in Battlefield look primitive, and it's a fast-paced game full of awesome. But it's not Brink, and it's not what Brink is trying to be.

Like I said, replay mode in third person, but not gameplay.

This is a FPS. The only reason I can think of you wanting to have a 3RD person perspective is to see your character design ( to a point is understandable). I perfer FPS over 3rd person any day of the week..But I wouldn't mind if they used it while my character was in cover. Sought of like the way RB6Vegas used it.

Okay. So yes, third-person in a fast paced game isn't good. Maybe back in the Golden Age of Gaming, the PS2 years, but like I said, they want to end genre gaming and go back to playing video games for the fun of it. Now a days people are REALLY dumb in games. Like have you ever heard of a game Dark Sector? That game is amazing. Its on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The gameplay is great and the multiplayer experience is one the best I've played. It sell well so not many people play it. The reason is because the story isn't all that great. Its a mediocre story but its not terrible. But those do play it are great gamers. Not just skilled wise but in their taste in fun. You play with them and you have a good time. Its a small fanbase. So if a game isn't good in a dumb way then people don't want it or play it. Yes this is fast-pasted game but who says it has to be? Yes there is a time limited but they can change it up or people will speed it up because they spent most of the game hiding so around the end the just say, "#$% it, I'm going in." Or this become a tactical game. The difference between third-person, stealth or not which(MGS might be but MGO not so much), and first-person is FPS are fast-paced and TPS are tactical. All I'm saying is it'll stick to the main idea of BRINK, just having fun without genres. Let BRINK be a just a game, not a FPS or shooter or any other genre.

And if they want to keep it fast-paced, the buff or ability will zoom in slowly when you stand still so you lose the advantage of looking around corners.

When they said "redefining genre" and "breaking barriers between genre" - you might want to rewatch their video about it.

They're actually taking about breaking down the barrier between single- and multiplayer, which is actually irrelevant to genre.

And having a game that's been directly promoted as being FPS caters to a specific market - and making it objective-based caters to a specific niche within that market. Adding a third person "option" would give anyone who chose to use it an unfair advantage over those who don't, making it a third-person game instead.

I'm still not saying third-person games aren't great, just that Brink isn't one, and they're not going to change that.

Also, trying to argue that it's a good idea for Brink to not be a fast-paced game, and to change it to a tactical shooter is kind of missing the whole point. It's MEANT to be a fast-paced game. It's NOT meant to be a third-person tactical shooter. If they wanted it to be that, they would have made it third-person, and they would have marketed it as a tactical shooter, not an objective-based FPS. Brink is what SD intended it to be (apart from a few AI issues to start, and some other glitches which managed not to affect the PS3 version of the game)

Essentially you want a mode like when you are in Gears of War you can only face the direction your character faces but in 3rd person.

It could be a buff! The operative doesn't have a buff maybe it could be his. They could add it in a DLC later on.

whoa... the advantage of 3rd person views is seeing around corners... This is the perfect Operative buff!

It's a great idea, I'd love it to be honest but I've got to agree with obliviondoll, this is a fps, which means First-Person Shooter. :)
No point saying there should be a 3rd person view option as it almost definitely wont happen. Sorry.

I hate third person shooters and would never want to play as it....but third person mode is already an option in the developer settings. Hackers have already discovered it and turned it on for consoles, along with super jump, infinite ammo/nades, no friction, and other things.... Hopefully they can only use it offline though.

It would be in the developers settings so that it's easier for a screenshot though.
Wouldn't it?

I was thinking it was for Sense of Perspective. There are some youtube videos if you search for "Brink Third Person"
