Meshes database

Hey there,

I am wondering if there is a meshes database out there?

By this I mean is there a list (along with pictures if possible) of all the meshes contained within the morrowind BSA folder/disc.

I ask because I have just spent a really long time going through every single folder on the disc to find one mesh. Now I realise that it would be simple to click open the CS then locat the item in question and read its file path to locate it.

But then it got me thinking. If their was an online database with search functions which could point modders to a meshes location and the textures attached to it this could prove to be a valuble tool, for the following reasons:

- Saves time
- serch function giving detailed information
- textures associated to that mesh
- What type of mesh it is
- what sub folder categoery its in

etc....

On the UESP when ever it mentions a weapon, item, armor etc... it gives the items ID. Now imagine a database simlar to this - it will contain the meshes unique id in the CS and it could also link to simlar meshes For example your looking for a daedric tileset mesh it will bring up all the information regarding that mesh along with the fact its part of a tile set and can link to the other parts of said tile set ect..

Now I am no good at making these things, I cant code at all - thats why this isnt a request but a question - does one exist?

Hmmm ... I have "Srikandi's TESCS Item Index 7/17/03" (describes every item, mostly no pictures though) and "Klinn's Morrowind Clothing Catalog v2" (shows all clothing items with pictures). Not exactly what you're looking for though, the first is lacking most pictures and the second is lacking everything beyond clothes.

Although Klinn did make a http://www.designamatic.com/MW-TerrainCatalog.html with some of the terrain meshes, Bloodmoon and West Gash only.

This is a good idea of a feature on http://mw.modhistory.com/ imo and I know that MMH has already http://mw.modhistory.com/download-0-5497 available, so that mod is a good start for a mesh database. Perhaps a texture database would be nice feature too.

I agree that this would be a good idea. I was talking about this with someone on the forums ( can't remember now who ) a while ago but haven't had any time to do it. I had toyed with the idea of making an automatic screen capture app using Niflib and Nifskope to do the picture taking as it'd be impossible to take all the necessary pics by hand but if the community was involved it'd spread the load.

I know the feeling of trying to track down that one mesh amongst hundreds :(. It would be an interesting project too given that search terms would often relate to geometrical properties. I remember reading about a spatial object database somewhere...

Anyway, if I wasn't so busy trying to finish my mod and mobile game I'd be in like Flynn as its entirely possible to do.

http://www.morrowind-mod.com/index.html

That used to be the archive of mod added meshes you turned to looking for a specific part. Unfortunately it's older than I am, hasn't been updated in a long while and features a ton of broken links

edit - opps, thought you were asking for modded mesh database. Not stock. Both are desperately needed imho.

I believe that using Yacoby's ESM.php I could maybe work up something that would scan through an esp/esm and get a list of the meshes used. From there it would be a fairly simple thing to import them into a MySQL database. If course that won't do anything for screenshots, but it would be a good starting point.

Perhaps I'll see if I can work something and scan through all of the mods we have at MMH....
