Is it possible to view your character in 360 degrees

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 11:00 pm

Hello, I just recently came back to TESIV:Oblivion, after too many years to count. I am downloading a ton of awesome mods and need some advice. I like to try on different types of armor, however, I cannot see my character, except his back (when I scroll out far enough to get to 3rd party, and then all I can see is his back)...or a simple frontal view when I hit the Tab key and open my commands screen. I have looked for a command that allows me to basically be in a 3rd party view and move the view around my character for a 360 degree view of the new armor. But I do not know how to do that. I have seen the YouTube Oblivion videos and I see it is possible to view my character like I want, but I do not know what to do. Is there a mod that allows you to have a 3rd person camera view that is moveable around your char? I hope I have explained what I am looking for and I hope I am able to get some good answers. Thank you all in advance. I will continue to look on YouTube, but I hope I get my answer here.

By default, it is your "R" key. You can find your available keybindings (and change them) under Options.

That doesn't help me...all it does is switch between a targeting 1st person view and the 3rd person view. I can get to the 3rd person view, however, it only shows my back. I want to know if there is an way, while in 3rd person, to change the perspective of the view...I want to be able to stand in front of my character and see his face, while in 3rd person. I see it done all the time in videos on YouTube...People who make armor mods are always showing off their armor from all different angles, spinning around the character in 3rd person. How do you do that? Thank you.

Are you holding down the key? Another option is to toggle free camera with the console;

Do you mean hold down the "R" key and then using keystrokes or my mouse, I will be able to vary the viewing angles? Please explain...holding down what key? then doing what?

Also, how do I toggle free camera in the console? I am new with the game, didn't really use mods or play it years ago, so I am unaware of what the "console" is or how to get to it...and I especially do not know how to put commands into this "console". Please explain how to toggle the camera free in the console....Thank you so much...I am sorry for being so dumb but it is important to me that I am able to do this 360 degree viewing and I just am too new to understand the ways you are explaining. Thank you again.

You can toggle first/third person view in two ways. pressing "R" (default button) and third mouse button (usually mouse wheel). If you press and hold either of those buttons, you can move the mouse around to pan around your character.

To open the console you press the tilde button or ~. it's the button that's to the left of the 1 key, above Tab. type "tfc" without quotes and you will enter free camera mode. open the console again and type tfc to exit free camera mode.

Thank you for this! I knew how to switch from 1st to 3rd person and I know how to use TFC. What I didn't know was the trick of holding down the 'switch to 3rd person' key and be able to pan around like that. :foodndrink:

Unfortunately you have to constantly put in the TFC command to toggle between camera controls and player movement controls. I'm not sure if there is a mod that lets you keep a panned angle, 3rd person view of your character like WoW does without having to constantly toggle the TFC command.

What do mean? You just hold down the change view button. no console needed to see your character in third person. Besides, even in free camera mode, you're character won't move.

What do you mean? If you hold down the button while sweeping around your character, you are still able to move him/her as much as you want

Yeah, the only problem is that the turning controls are then tied to the camera, so you can watch your character walking or running from any angle, but your character can only move in a straight line.

I was referring to free camera mode, aka TFC. When you do that, your character ceases to move, even if you have auto-walk on. Schmoe made it sound like the only way to pan around your character in third person was to use TFC.That's why I was a little confused.

What I meant to do was mention the fact that you cannot freely move while using the free camera mode, in case that wasn't obvious to anyone who hadn't used TFC yet.
Sure you can pan the camera and move around holding the change view button in Oblivion, but would be kind of neat to be able to toggle that rather than having to hold the button down. Frees up an extra finger for other controls that way. :)
