BOSS Log Redesign Thread

Maybe what people are really wanting is a checkbox that would hide mods which have only bash tag suggestions, checksums, and version info?

Dark scheme still working for me in IE9 and I refreshed a few times. Will empty cache and try it again.

Wrinkly the Toggle background "Use Dark colour scheme" seems to have stopped working in the latest version.

Still working for me

Apologies should have mentioned in SRWare Iron (Chrome fork)

Edit:  "Try turning on Java script Alt for the page" Doh!, false alarm it is still working, I selectively enable java script per page and forgot to ... :whistling:

Maybe this is too early or too late to bring up but I'm curious which options will be on by default for average users. I am adoring these new functions and having more information but am thinking the checksums and version info are probably mainly useful to your team and all the lovely extra features might actually confuse the same folks that are sadly and stubbornly terrified of Bash. I've been able to coax most of them to run BOSS but some of them panic and dig their heels in if you mention Bash or even TES4Edit.

I've been able to coax most of them to run BOSS but some of them panic and dig their heels in if you mention Bash or even TES4Edit.

Checksums require a command line parameter (or the corresponding GUI option) to be set before they are calculated, as the calculation increases BOSS's run time noticeably. Version numbers will be read and displayed by default, and the command line parameter (and GUI option) for disabling reading and display of them is still available. OBSE/NVSE/FOSE & script extender plugin info will only be displayed when checksum calculation is enabled. I think version info is general enough that it should be enabled by default.

There is one section that isn't visible in the online BOSSlog, that being the General Messages section that is displayed if any such messages in the masterlist apply to your setup. I originally thought up the section as a way of letting people know when there was a new version of BOSS available, but it can be used to display any mod-unspecific messages applicable to the user's setup.

So there's no increase in information by default since the last time, I got rid of the Special Mod Detection section (which was actually meant to be a debugging thing left in, those mods are still detected) and the information is now easier to read, so it should be more accessible to people than before. The ability to use conditional messages in the masterlists will also cut down on the number of messages to only those appropriate to the user's setup.

It's still fundamentally a 1-click load order sorter, but with more and more power under the hood for those that want it.

Great, thank you. :) It is much easier to read now and should be for almost everyone, I think. I wouldn't be too surprised if a high percentage of users who check any of the checkboxes at all end up using the dark scheme.

I've uploaded a new http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17043363/BOSSlogAlt.html. This changes the filtering to act like how Surazal and myk002 wanted it to behave, taking mods which have all their messages hidden by filters to be the same as messageless mods. I'd like to know people's opinions on which makes more sense to them.

It also adds the ability to select a filter's text label to check its box, rather than having to click the checkbox itself, and tweaks the filter labels and some text colours, but these are changes made to the 'main' version of the BOSSlog too (which the online version of has yet to be updated).

I'm kind of divided about whether it makes more sense per se, but it behaves how I expected. When I tried it I realized it might be useful for people who just want to see the userlist messages and whether there are unrecognized mods. Time-saver for them. The boxes are working when I click the text (IE9). Can't test if ghosted plugins are since there aren't any.

If one does, they all will, since all the 'hide x' options are using the same code. If I leave some some stuff un-generated (like checksums and no ghosted mods) now it's fine.

While it doesn't make sense to me, a regular user just wanting to sort her load order, it might make sense to superusers who grow tired of seeing the same old messages/same old list again and again. An interesting feature to have, let's just hope new users don't click off all these hide boxes and complain about BOSS because they aren't seeing the important info, or, any info at all.

Clicking the text label does check the box (FF user). Maybe a little contrary to popular opinion but the dark scheme, while I like dark backgrounds, was a little harsh for me, possibly because of the stark white text instead of muted greyish/white that isn't so glaring. Just my opinion though. :)

With Bash Tag suggestions being a major feature of BOSS I personally don't see the point in having a hide tag suggestions box in the first place, especially since the mod is still listed with that option checked. Doesn't make sense to me.

There are no ghosted plugins in your load order, so we can't test whether or not the "hide ghosted" checkbox works or not. :P

And yeah, I did forget a hexcode. I couldn't find a suitable color for that one that was close enough to the original and still dark enough to see on the white background. I like the dark background, though white text on black is a bit hard on the eyes.
