Project Zomboid

"Surviving isn’t just about blowing zombie’s heads off. Depression, starvation, trust issues, loneliness, illness, insanity. These are just some of the things you have to deal with in Project Zomboid.

First of all — YOU WILL DIE

You’re trapped in a quarantined city with a million zombies. There is no escape. There is no cure. The end is coming, so get used to it.

Project Zomboid is about the choices you make, and how you choose to live your last days on Earth. As a hero who goes out in a moment of heroic self-sacrifice to save a defenseless family? Or a callous coward who saves his own skin and leaves his companions for dead?

It’s these choices, and the story you weave in your adventure. That is what Project Zomboid is all about. Not saving the world with some pie in the sky cure, or flying away in a helicopter where everything will probably be okay. This is the apocalypse."

It's in Alpha right now, but it looks promising. Tim Buckley (Ctrl+Alt+Del guy) had a post about it (where I found out about it) and he's been having fun with it. It's taken after the Minecraft selling strategy where you buy it now on the cheap and get it for life through all of its developments....http://projectzomboid.com/blog/index.php/buy-our-games/

I haven't played it, but if I had $5 or $10 laying around, I'd pick it up.

So I need to buy another game, to get the game I'd actually want for free. That's a confuzzling distribution model.

It's because of issues they had with Google Checkout.

I've heard about, but it doesn't interest me too much.

Also seems like the game is trying to do too much and once, and will probably result in all the mechanics being shallow. I much prefer few deep mechanics than several shallow, so yeah. That being said, crafting system+randomly generated map+zombies+rpg elements will probably appeal to a lot of people.

I wish there was a full on zombie apocolypes rpg in the TES format of rpg. imo it would be awesome to have just a huge map with an insane amount of random encounters adn you just make a character to want to play through the infected apocolypes as.

Seriously. Why don't they just sell the alpha like Minecraft or Mount and Blade?

different game play. the enjoyment to their game is based on a story line and what they intend to be random encounters-ish stuff. but since its still indevelopment if they sold it people would want their money back. the game is buggy, way buggy. they say so themselves. they diliberatly point out that any point of veiw about the game as they have released it has to be taken with a grain of salt that it will get better.

instead of making you pay for a barely playable (what essentially is a demo) they make you buy a nother game of theirs that is finished and not buggy do to developement.

Except I want this game, not those other games, ya know? They're using a distribution model that lends itself well to games that focus on one underlying feature (combat in Mount and Blade, and making stuff in Minecraft) when their game is ill-suited for it. I'm sure lots of people are okay with buying other games, but there's a lot to be said if you're already selling your game when there's not even a playable alpha of it yet.

I'm enjoying it but wish there were some sort of save aspect of it. I'm sure the full game will have the ability to save. Its just frustrating to have to go through the same 'get the painkillers, make the soup' blah blah blah every time. Ah well.

I'm still enjoying it - I think there's going to be a lot to it.

Yeah I found out about it from CAD too, and I've been enjoying it. Looking forward to when there's more too it though - like Emz said, the tutorial parts can be pretty dragging...

Ugh I keep dying when the guy comes into the house despite everything being barricaded up. Is there a way to switch off the radio so he doesn't hear it?
