Would you like to see more of Morrowind or Oblivion in Skyri

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 3:46 am

I can see that in the new perk system, but not really from the screenshots. Quite a few people have been saying that the shots from Skyrim resemble Fallout 3 but i totally disagree. Fallout's environment was characterized by a drab, tan desert-wasteland feel almost throughout but Skyrim looks like it will be a bit more dynamic. And you dont see much snow in Fallout.

Remove the tint from nv graphically there's not to much difference; artistically no but graphically yeah.

I'd like them to create something very original with each game, but I know it is near impossible to do now what they did when they were not a big company with big fanbase and budget (bigger budget = bigger risk) . By something very original I don't mean to change things just for the sake of freshing the gameplay (like attributes, skills, leveling and other rpg fundamentals) I mean very original story, quests, dialogue, books, memorable characters, emphasis on choices&consequences.

Oblivion was better and newer than Morrowind...so we will be seeing more of Oblivion (horses, scenery, and all that good stuff).

I think by the contrary, that Morrowind's aesthetics were better overall. I want a bit of that eccentricity back.

None. I want Skyrim to be its own individual experience and not Morrowind 2/Oblivion 2.

I predicted a comment like this. As for which game it should resemble I would have to say oblivion. Because of the nature is much more like our own.

I would just like the best bits of what made the previous games great. Like you say this game is built on the foundation of its predecessors. I have faith that every aspect of the game
will be looked at and reworked, which I think is happening. You can't focus on one thing to have a "greater influence" because some things that were in past Elder Scrolls might not
work within Skyrim. Everything has to work in harmony with each other.

Considering they are building the game from the ground up, I don't think it can be said that either Morrowind or Oblivion really serve as a foundation for Skyrim.

That means that they are creating an entirely new engine on which the game will run. Thematically, however, it will live on in the legacy of its TES predecessors, and most certainly will contain elements of previous games.

No. I don't want to play a tactical RPG.

No, that means instead of looking back at Oblivion and tweaking it to make it better, they are starting over. The lore, sure, but that exists well beyond just those two games and I don't expect to see much direct influence (aside from the civil war).

It's tradition. I was merely getting it in before some other fool did. I replied in detail what I actually thought in my second post to cliffracer.

@Mitheledh

I don't agree for the same reason as the OP. Without its foundations Elder Scrolls would not be Elder Scrolls as we know it.

I would like more elements from Morrowind (no, not that far as making it a Morrowind 2) mostly because I know for a fact that it will inherit more from Oblivion (good and bad) because it shares more things with Oblivion (generic earthly setting, same hardware, and most of the comparisons in the previews are talking about what improvements there are made from Oblivion, not from Morrowind).

They would have to revolutionize the combat system to resemble that of, say, assassins creed and its mounted combat. With the free cursor as you swing and no lock on to opponents, hitting something from atop a horse would be nothing short of impossible. If they changed this, you also wouldn't have the other advantages of the first person free cursor style, including lifting items or communicating and interacting with your environment in the typical TES style, detracting from the immersion. In short, the combat system youre proposing is contrary to everything TES has constructed, and it wouldn't be cast away simply so that you can ride around on your horse hacking away at opponents.

Obviously it wont just be a tweaked Oblivion seeing as it has an entirely new engine. However, elements of previous game will pervade in any series, or it cannot be called a series.

The best parts of Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion while avoiding all their worst parts.
And a whole lot of uniqueness.

Agree but I think nice add some additional features from other games of series like ability to talk with certain enemies from Battlespire (was also in Morrowind) thats make enemies much more living then just aggressive health sponges obstacles.
Not like only improved flawed features from Oblivion what already was demonstrated but more like return of good features from previous games along with fixed features of Oblivion, who need Oblivion 2.0 when we can have Skyrim what stay on top of improved basis of previous games and add own new features.
