Kurt Kuhlmann Meristation Interview

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 11:22 am

Hi there, I just found a new article on this spanish website. I smell some new info but please don′t be too much excited, I need time to translate it.

Here it is: http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_avances.php?pic=GEN&id=cw4de80c62c40ff&idj=cw4d04270c2ee40&&iframe=1

Well... Nothing precisely new :( .. sorry, but I′ll give you the interview anyway, its interesting....

M: Did you decided to settle the game in Skyrim before writing the story?

KK: There was a fast consensus in wich we decided that we wanted Skyrim to be the settle of our next game. We already had some good stories with much potential to develop in that setting and we liked the idea of doing something very different to Cyrodiil, also, the Nords already had a good base of lore to develop stories and ideas about them, and we liked the rough enviroment of Skyrim and its people

About fauna: One of our original inspirations was using Ice Age animals for our creatures, that was a great way of giving them a fantastic feel while keeping them tied to reality

About interactions with Dragons: They′ll be more complex than just fighting them (new maybe?)

Crafting: Smithing, enchanting, cooking, weaving (?), alchemy

No climbing Daggerfall style :(

Character balancing similar to Oblivion′s, using perks

Same info on dungeon leveling....

Some dungeons with quests inside them,

He comments on being excited about what mods will do with the new engine and perks system...

He said to be amazed that both Oblivion and Skyrim can run in the same hardware considering the great job their artists and programmers have done, complete renovation of spell casting systems, he also said that high level spells will be "amazing", and that a lot of time and resources were invested in the new system of animations.

Well fellas, thats much it. I hope that you like it.

Oh, and sorry for the bad translations, I'm not so good at english

Cool

A few tidbits:

-The player's relationship to the dragons will be "complicated"----"more than just fighting"
-knitting confirmed? Really? Maybe this is a subset of crafting that lets you make clothes/armor ("a variety of different options for the meats and skins of animals")
-dungeon level ranges go from 10-30 (may be mistranslated--this might be a specific dungeon)
-There is a big surprise connected to the "Dungeon Dwarves" (Dwemers, or some other creature?)

Based on the translation of Dwemer (Deep Elves), this sounds like it could only really be Dwemer...but in a really convoluted way. Dwarves in Tamriel usually indicates Dwemer, and Dungeon -> Deep... That being said, the "big surprise" would indicate that it's something that already holds meaning to us, or else it wouldn't be mentioned in that way. So, I figure that means we're gonna have some dwemer-related information in the game. New book? Yagrum Bagarn appearance? The simple idea that there will be dwemer ruins in game (previously confirmed)?

I would expect dungeon levels to go higher than 30 and lower than 10, but 10-30 does sounds like a really wide range for a single dungeon. Complicated dragon relationships sound great, and knitting...I'd like to see the implications before I form an opinion.

Settled.

I will make a big, tough Nord Dovakiin, giant muscles and wielding a two-hander axe.

In his sparetime, he is the Master-Weave of Skyrim.

I kinda mistranslate it, The word used is "tejer", which can mean both weaving and knitting, but its more likely knitting

About what I expected. Developing a pc game on a console with an optimized engine has its payoff. Should be able to load this baby down with mods and still rock.

Thanks for translating this interview!
