tes games are more about making you feel like your actually living in the world
gta is more about 'how much illegal funny crap can i do in this game' kinda stuff

If you have ever played a role playing game then it is similair to those. It is one big area with things like cities, villages, caves, dungeons. ruins all to explore. You fight creatures and people with medieval weapons. So swordds, axes, magic, bows etc. There is a main quest line that is what the game is about. It is usually 10 hours I think? And then many side quests. Quests are like mission in GTA. You get rewarded for doing these quests. Ohh and when you kill a creature or person they have loot contained on there body. This loot can be armor, weapons, potions, food, gold, etc. They can all be used or sold. You can just explore and kill things. Or you can do all of the quests. It is a big open world to where you can, as Todd says "You can be whoever you want and do whatever you want. Live another life in another world"

You'll have to be a little more specific with your questions.

What are you talking about? Yes, you can kill people, rack up a bounty, get chased by guards, steal items, fight with npcs, join guilds, do jobs, and go exploring. More specific information might not have been released yet; no one know how much in depth anything will be in Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls games are a bit less "arcadey" than GTA. Like dying means actually dying - you have to load. :P

Generally the games focus more on developing your character than simply gaining weapons and money. There's different factions you can rise through the ranks of, not to mention skills, attributes and all of that stuff. Overall most of my friends who play GTA are also avid TES fans, so if you want a simple answer you could probably have a lot of fun with the game.

Just know that things like wanton violence may not be without long-term consequences. There's reputation and bounty systems, and there's always the potential of accidentally killing a questgiver. :P

Imagine GTA, but you're any character you want in a heroic fantasy setting, say somewhere between Conan and The Lord of the Rings.

It's basically the coolest concept ever for sword & sorcery/90s GW geeks like me, but you basically get what you want from a game like TES. You won't regret it.

you should look up videos of oblivion or morrowind on youtube and try to get the feel for the series, either that or buy one of them and play it before Skyrim comes out. (I prefer Oblivion since it is easier for new players to get into it.)

but yeah, you can break into houses, steal things, pickpocket people, fight/murder people, exploring, dungeon diving, unique items, join different guilds that have storylines aside from the main quest, amazing enviroments, and if you are a PC user - MODS! which add 100+ more hours to gameplay. Seriously, the list can go on and on.

if you like to get lost in a game world and truly role-play a specific character you have in your head, good or bad, then you should love The Elder Scrolls series.

Oblivion had a Colosseum-esque Arena where you could fight as a gladiator of sorts. Don't know if that's returning in Skyrim.

Yes, there was an Arena in Oblivion where you fight opponents in a gladiatorial arena and collect a gold reward. I'm not sure if an Arena is confirmed to be in Skyrim, but you can probably expect one to return.

What you mostly do is randomly and aimlessly swing your weapon back and forth at random monsters till they stop moving. . . . O' wait thats Oblivion.
