Collage of Winterhold@The Ysmir Collective

Keep dreaming. This is not a Simulation game.

I don't think his notion is outrageous. Though, to be fair, The Mystic Arcives did have an entire second floor of books. I think if you took both floors of The Mystic Archives and added another room worth of books like the one in THe Chorrol Mages Guild, it would be a pretty impressive ingame library, as far as in game libraries go. What would really make it worth while is if it had about 75 unique books, rather than the same 10 books every place else has, stacked together in duplicate piles of ten, with only one or two rare tomes in the entire building.

Anyway, I now know the first major destination of my first playthrough.

and the Bards College

That's in Solitude:
The home of the famous Bards' College, Haafingar is also one of Skyrim's chief ports, and ships from up and down the coast can be found at her crowded quays, loading timber and salted cod for the markets of Wayrest, West Anvil, and Senchal. Founded during Skyrim's long Alessian flirtation, the Bards' College continues to flaunt a heretical streak, and its students are famous carousers, fittingly enough for their chosen trade. Students yearly invade the marketplace for week of revelry, the climix of which is the burning of "King Olaf" in effigy, possibly a now-forgotten contender in the War of Succession. Graduates have no trouble finding employment in noble households across Tamriel, including the restored Imperial Court in Cyrodiil, but many still choose to follow in the wandering footsteps of illustrious alumni such as Callisos and Morachellis.

There's also a College of the Voice:
Today, the most ancient and powerful of the Tongues live secluded on the highest peaks in contemplation, and have spoken once only in living memory, to announce the destiny of the young Tiber Septim (as recounted in Cyrodiil). In gratitude, the Emperor has recently endowed a new Imperial College of the Voice in Markarth, dedicated to returning the Way of the Voice to the ancient and honorable art of war. So it may be that the mighty deeds of the Nord heroes of old will soon be equaled or surpassed on the battlefields of the present day.

An opinion of the College, from Tiber's time:
Septim's new college is staffed by hacks and charlatans ~ the so-called Grand Master is said to have formerly earned his living as a street performer in Windhelm ~ the students are scions of the most obsequious Nord families, hoping to curry favor with Tiber Septim's New Order.

So long as it is big and there are MANY things to do (+ a big ass library) I will be entirely happy as my usual Mage. (Winterhold was always going to be my first port of call ^_^)

Skyrim contains a College, the collage of Winterhold. I hope this college functions as a real college with some classes with interesting lectures you can attend (not like the ones in oblivion) and learn something that will help you out in the world, like an anatomy lecture that would help you find the weak spot on a giant for example. I hope the Ysmir Collective which is supposed to be a big library Isn't 2 book shelves and a glass case, the arcane university library was a big disappointment to me.
So how do you guys think the college and library should function/look?

This is a college of Magic not animals and such.... just saying

Pocket guide to the empire says its just a college "the corner stone of academic life" so its not just a college for magic and its perfectly reasonable to have an anatomy class.

Yea, you're right. So Whiterun replaces Winterhold. Guess Winterhold will be a large town probably the size of an Oblivion city?

Probably. And Dunmer! Could thi be a picture of it right above the sketchboard at 3:36 in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Cj9AISJzR0

Think about it, there was a mages guild in every city in Oblivion. Same should apply for Skyrim.

College of Winterhold
College of Markarth
College of Solitude
College of Whiterun
College of Windhelm
College of Riften
College of Falkreath
College of Dawnstar

Interesting, Winterhold isn't one of the 5 major cities, but still has a major role.

Most likely the college was there long before and the a village outside it grew over time to supply their food etc.

Like Stardock village in Feist's books.

So it seems like we are getting one hub for Maguc users it seems, or I could be mistaken. But I hope it's nothing like the arcane university, I remember going to sit down to listen to a lecture and everyone getting up and leaving :sadvaultboy:.

Yes I'm sure the college focuses on magic but seeing as its a college and Mages in game study a wide range of topics there would be other things being taught.

Could someone please inform me about The Bard's College. Is it also an academy of sorcery, or does it have nothing to do with magic and focus solely on lore and relating lore through story and song?

I am still hoping some lore champion here can answer this for me. I am not confusing it with Winterhold College, I specifically want to know if THe Bard's College is magic oriented or purely historical in nature of focus.

The bards college and Winterhold are separate colleges, From what I've read it seems the the bards college is more of a college like colleges in real life and focus on a wide range of subjects. Winterhold is some kind of mix but with a main focus of teaching magic.
