To include or not to include birthsigns?

Of course they should have included them.

Lol, birthsigns. For past games, I used my real birthdate and gave the in-game equivalent to my characters.

Didn't really find them useful, but were sort of fun for roleplay...

I liked Birthsigns. They were very nice for roleplaying reasons and could make different characters actually different.
Now every single character you create will be the same except for looks... Yay...
Before you go all "PERKS!" on me, I'm talking about the beginning of the game.

I'm okay with attributes being removed (to an extent, I'll play the game before I pass judgment), and I don't really care about classes being removed. But I thought the removal of birth signs was odd. You're always born under a certain sign, and they've always given different bonuses. It just seemed like a nice way to kind of differentiate characters, and have a bit of variety when/as you play/reroll. As it is now, it seems you'll really only roll one character and max him out because there really wouldn't be much reason to do anything otherwise (excepty for role playing purposes, to do the handful of quests with choices differently, ect).

Are there still racial bonuses? If not that would be quite disappointing.

How many people REALLY used The Lord?

At least one.

On topic: I liked the idea of birthsigns; they added a bit of flavor. I will miss them, but if the gameplay is great you won't hear me complaining (too loudly) about their loss.

Yeah, they got rid of them because newbs were apparently "ruining" their builds with them.

I'll miss being able to Turn Undead outside of Conjuration. The Ritual Birthsign allowed me to do that. I doubt perks will allow such things

Good riddance. Didn't ever like them anyway, I thought it was conceptually poor and a largely unnecessary addition to the game (all the while removing the significantly more in-depth Daggerfall's character creation system for no convincing reasons to back it up). And this coming from a big time Morrowind fan, here.
I agree with what Vessels has to say, and I hope some of Daggerfall's system will be seen in the future.

They were nice, but I'm not heartbroken over it.

This, but I will miss the Atronach simply for how different it made the gameplay. I really wish they had kept them in and made them unique like the Atronach was instead of getting rid of them, though.

They are confirmed to be sort of still in, they give skill boosts and special powers. They work completely different than before though.

Yes, as I've said over 9000 times, I'd like them in for the fun of saying that you're associated with something.

I always get a kick out of people who can't get over other people liking them, and treating them as though they're as pesky and bad as something like cliff racers. They're useful in the beginning, then you stop using them if you want. Why is that such a big deal to some people?

Just read that thread! It's nice to see how they incorporated them with the doomstones :P.

I won't miss them too greatly aside from the fact I fear everybody's going to be too similar at the start of the game now. Or do you just want me to spend my first five levels swinging an axe and doing nothing else, so that I can "pretend" my character has always been a skilled warrior - instead of having the background of one from the very beginning of character creation like I could in Morrowind and Oblivion?

Oh well. If they are indeed out, at least this means a potential Daggerfall (dis)advantages mod could get a lot more attention from the community. :whistling:

Thank goodness, a concise and neatly-worded post summing up my sentiments that I can just quote instead of having to write a novella again.

I loved birthsigns, not because of the spells and abilities they gave you, but because of the lore that was associated with them. I'm very upset that Bethesda disregards lore when doing stuff like this. Birthsigns are the constellations' movements under which you are born. To remove birthsigns would be to remove all the stars.

I want them in because it makes your character even more different and I want them in for roleplaying reasons. I've chosen to make my characters with certain signs and what should I do now, I guess just pretend they have the birthsign effects with them not having them in game. I liked them as well it made your starting character have that one advantage right at the beginning of the game.
