Non-Magic User Joining the Mage's Guild?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:43 am

Hello all, I would like to hear of any excuses, reasons, backstory, or roleplay scenarios in which a non-magic character would go through the mage's Guild Quest.

So yeah, any ideas on how you would justify such an action?

Your father is a wealthy landowner, who always dreamed of being a mage, but didn't have the talent. He has convinced himself that you do, despite all the evidence to the contrary, and has made it a condition of his Will that you must go to the Arcane University if you are to inherit the family estate.

In your past, Necromancers killed your mom and resurrected your puppy. You want revenge! You will stop at nothing to destroy every Necromancer out there, You join the Meridia followers, you kill zombies, you go to Necromancer hideouts and burn them out. You are even willing to join the Mages Guild, whom openly banned Necromancy. At the same time, you are curious about the arcane arts and you delve deeper into the mystical energies that form magic. In time, you become a modest mage who can cast nearly any basic spell.
But you want more, you're thirst for more power is never quenching. You start asking questions, you read ancient books, you do experiments and next thing you know.... YOU'RE A NECROMANCER!

You could just have an interest in the enchanting of weapons and you wish to learn more and maybe even enchant your own. You may have found a soul gem and you go to sell it to a mage who tells you all of the possibilities that lie with this little gem. Or maybe, you just want to be a better fighter and wish for a stronger weapon. :gun:

Or
You heard of a great treasure they are hiding in the Arcane University and you want it for yourself....
Or

I think enchanter is a good choice. Since you can enchant with any spell you have(or is it those you can cast? I never remember) you don't need any talent to do it(?).

If you play as a Knight you can use the Morrowind class description as an excuse for being an echanting warrior. See http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Classes#Knight page for more info about that.

Perhaps your the best damned alchemist or enchanter in the land :D

Perhaps you handle clerical things for the guild.

Perhaps you simply wish to study magic not use it. A Warrior may want to study it so he knows how to defend it or plan tatics around necromancer caves,

I like to join just for the sake of being given access to everything in each guildhall. Same reason I join the Fighters Guild in just about every playthrough. It's also a good place to get stuff for Alchemy.
