So... i have for a long time had a backstory set out for my Skyrim character, yet i had no name for him... which is a problem. So, yesterday i was re-reading my PSM magazine, and cam across a line that said "As his soul becomes ours, we raise both fists skyward and shout "Dovahkiin!"" A quick recap of my story is, a Nord maiden in Skyrim, was visited by a mysterious spirit and had unknowingly lost her viginity to it and had later given birth to a boy without a mortal lover, (reminicsint of the Merilin birth story, except without all those extra bits of sin and such, this is much more simple and clean) a preist told her that the only explenation was that this boy was the son of either a demon from oblivion, which is more likely, or the spirit of a God, which was very, VERY rare. The priest told the mother that she should leave the child at the top of a mountain to kill the abomination, the mother sobbing asked what would happen if the child was the son of a god, to which the priest replied "Then Divine destiny shall assure the child survives". The mother then put the baby on the top of a mountain where he was later taken in and raised by a family of wolves for years, who taught him to fight (where his combat skills come from) and survive and craft things from nature (where his smithing weapons and armour skills come from), he also learned to become immune to the harsh environment of Skyrim from living in the mountains and forests. When the wolf mother died and all her children left to lead lives of thier own, the man then eventually came across a villiage, and was soon imprisoned as his odd nature was easily noticed, being in Prison for years he learned fluent english (but still had a slight growl and grunt town from the wolves, which would later help him pronounce the Dragon shouts more fluently) and skill with multiple weapons in the Arena the gaurds had all the murderers fight in, my character is the only one who wasnt a murderer. On occasion the prisoners would be taken out to the villiage for community service, where the character had learned basic everyday lifestyle from the villagers, in the nights the gaurds would tease the prisoners by drinking cold ale and getting drunk occasionally, the character would listen to the stories of epic warriors who would defend the world from terrifying dangers, and other stories, where the character would write the stories into the cell wall using his nails and would learn to read and write from this and learn his basic Lore from it aswell... one day the character seen an innocent prisoner being brutally beaten by corrupt gaurds, the character then went on to save the innocent following the stories he knew so well, by killing all three gaurds and saving the prisoner, more gaurds then came in overwhelmed the character and had him locked untill the day of his execution under the trial of murder...
Now... it may not be the most CREATIVE story but i like the feel of a character being risen in a harsh environment by wolves and later to be the saviour of Nirn like the old war stories he learned from (p.s. his spirutal father is either going to be "Alduin" or "Ysmir" i havnt decided yet, "The Son Of Alduin" sounds awesome but being the Son of Ysmir automatically gives him an epic "Good" personality rather than evil). I still however couldt figure out a name, so i began thinking hard, and came to this conclusion... since he was never actually given a name by his mother or anyone else who ever met him, he adopts the name that he became and everyone calls him by "Dovahkiin", now you may think this is really uncreative but i think it is a really good explenation for not having a birth name and will help with Immersion, as everyone is going to be calling the main character "Dovahkiin" (or Dragonborn occasionally) through the game anyway... what do you guys think?
-"As his soul becomes ours, we raise both fists skyward and shout "Dovahkiin!" I am really looking forward to building my character and the consequences of his story when the game comes out ^_^
