Dark Brotherhood attacks not starting!

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 9:26 am

I'm Level 17 (reputation 12) and i'm wanting to start the Tribunal quest storyline. But I can't get the DB attacks to start, no matter how much I rest! I was using Avelon Hellfyre's "Murderous Dreams" mod, but disabled it due to no attacks and have since used the command "StartScript dbAttackScript" in the console. I still can't trigger the attacks. Is this anything to do with using Starfire's excellent mod, which I believe changes the chance of being attacking by the DB?

You may be able to kickstart the quest with the following two commands:

set DBAttack to 1
Journal TR_DBAttack 10

This makes the game think that you already have been attacked by an asassin. When you talk to a guard now, a specific greeting should be triggered ("You say you've been attacked by assassins?"), and the quest should continue from there.

Note: I haven't checked the long-term ramifications of that change (there may be something else in the quest that requires the attacks to actually happen), though you can probably solve such problems with similar means, should they occur. Also, I have no experience with the mods you mentioned, so my change _may_ break something there, if they depend on the DB attacks in some way.

I just had a problem with this last night and spent a good hour trying to track down which mod wasn't allowing the quest to start.

It ended up being "DM_DB Armor Replacer-ExpDDBA.esp"

I don't ever remember installing that mod so I assumed the MGO used it, maybe you have the same one installed?

That's Dimitri Mazieres "Dark Brotherhood Armor Replacer Expanded". The "DDBA" denotes an optional esp with delayed Dark Brotherhood attacks, it delays the attacks until the player has been named either Hortator or Nerevarine. It is not part of MGSO, at least it doesn't appear in my MGSO-only install.

Yeah I did find out what mod it was. Though I was just really confused on why it was in there, I already have westlys replacer so I didn't know why I would have another one, but that could just be my bad memory. I just wanted to make sure the OP didn't get it "accidentally" installed like I did (though now I realize it was probably just my own fault).

The weird thing about my version of that mod though is that I've completed the main quest and I still didn't get the attacks until I disabled the esp, and when I re-downloaded Dimitris mod the esp had a different name than the one in my data files. Just very very strange.
