Crysis 2 on SSD

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 11:38 pm

I would like to install Crysis 2 on my SSD and run it from there for obvious reasons. Problem is I would like to run it on both my PC's but am not sure if and how it would work. I have it installed on both PC's already and the SSD, but if I run it eg. on my i7 Laptop from the SSD and go to multiplayer then I can't find any servers to play on. If I go to recent servers, it shows them but when I click on info it says server unreachable. Can anyone help me here as I just spent a small fortune on the SSD and all and I am not getting maximum usage from it :( HELP ME PLS

so... you got ONE SSD? and are using it as some sort of external drive between two computers?

The SSD should not effect what servers you see. Are you patched up to 1.8?

Yes I am running SSD between 2 computers but want to use it primarily on my laptop. I have the game installed on both pc's as well. I was thinking of uninstalling it from my laptop and running it off the SSD, but I am not sure if I will loose my rank and other online game data. I have a bit of knowledge about computers but am still studying so this is a bit tricky for me especially since it is the first time I am using a SSD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're making this hard on yourself...just take the SSD out of your enclosure (assuming it's in that) put it in your desktop and be content with that haha

Also the SSD is being used as a SSD connecting through a eSATA cable and port thus running at high speed.

It will be difficult to keep two machines using the same Multiplayer profile. Some of the MP data (such as loadout configuration, browser choices, and some assessment and unlock data) are kept locally in your Saved Games\Crysis2 folder.

Changes on one machine wont be known on the other. Although your stats will be ok, your progress and settings will be wonky. I dont know of any straightforward way to redirect the Saved Games location in Crysis2. Even if the program might be on the portable SSD, the profile details are on your C: drive

Thanks for the info. Can't I save the "saved game folder" on the external SSD? Then use it between the 2? Is there a way of redirecting the folder so it automatically does that or would I copy and paste into a folder in the external SSD?

You would be forced to cut and paste (no easy redirect). If you always kept "saved games" in sync between the two machines, and ONLY use the "DEFAULT" profile, my experimentation indicates you would be ok. If its just a one time swap or something, no big deal, but going back and forth regularly would be... perilous. Good Luck!
