2K Games releases new XCOM trailer

I don't know why companies insist on using old titles and changing almost everything about them (Fallout being an exception because there hadn't been one in so long and I feel it still had some of the most critical stuff from the old games in there) instead of just putting them under a new title.

I guarantee that if this wasn't called X-Com people would be loving it.

Thing is, it isn't even called X-Com. It's XCOM. Just like it's BioShock and not System Shock.

See, things can be sooo easy. ^_^

It's a team-based game featuring a special unit fighting against aliens and slowly utilising the tech of those aggressors. No, totally doesn't sound like X-Com.

Yeah, nothing to do with X-Com. Are you seriously saying it's an X-Com game just because it's a group of people fighting aliens?

XCOM is not about that. It's about turn based tactical combat, building your bases around the world, and kicking alien ass. Actually, you first have to endure weeks of getting your ass kicked, and then at the middle-end of the game you start kicking ass using their technology.

EDIT: Oh...I see. It's XCOM, not X-Com. Major difference! I don't know why they wanted to use the same name, doesn't make sense. Call it Alien Hunter or something.

The http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdVb4UnqO7A trailer looked much better... I hope they didn't scrap everything. :/

I thought so too. What I saw from last year seemed really cool. After seeing this new trailer, it is now just coming off as another run of the mill fps. Then again, I heard people say that they hated what the other trailer showed. I don't know. My interest for this game is starting to dwindle now.

They wanted to be as sensible as Irrational was with BioShock. Keep the resemblance so you at least see a broad thematic connection.

But I agree that this whole "franchise recognition" nonsense needs to die a quick and fiery death.

Seems to resemble X-Com to me, at least. The trailer mentions capturing their technology and using it against them, so I assume you'll get upgrades from doing so. The major difference, of course, comes in the fact that it is first person real time as opposed to overhead turn based. We'll have to see just how much that will affect the strategy of the game, but I'm sure that the options available to the player will, of course, be no where near the amount available to players in the original game.

I do, however, enjoy the art direction. I think its a neat take on aliens and how their technology would look, because much of what we see these days is more organic in appearance.

Exactly. I think I've had my share of Giger derivatives. ^_^
