Looking for some game suggestions.

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 5:25 am

Looking to buy some new games, and since Saints Row 3 and Skyrim are five months off I could use some suggestions.

The types of games I usually play:
Saints Row 2
Oblivion
Morrowind
Fallout 3 (1 and 2 also, so turn based wouldn't be strictly out)
Fallout New Vegas
I've played a couple of Grand Theft Auto games, so not these again.
The Rainbow Six Games
Loved Silent Storm 2 ... until the panzerkleins where introduced to the game. (2004, turn based game if anyone is wondering).

I'd like open world if possible, but missions that allow you to complete them anyway you can would work also. Just not a strictly linear game. I like sword and sorcery games, but feel more in the mood for shoot em up ones at this time.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, this one is actually for the xbox 360.

Thanks

The Dragon Knight Saga (also known as Divinity 2 or Ego Draconis) is worth a look; it can be slightly hard going at times but it's a rather inventive and fun little game with some quite sly humour. It's based on the same Gamebryo engine as Oblivion which isn't to everyone's taste, but I quite like it (though it's an entirely different program to Oblivion, I hasten to add).

I'd suggest Red Dead Redemption. It's a great open world game. You say you don't want another GTA, and it's similar, but it might be different enough. I hate GTA, but loved RDR.

This is definitely a good idea, however if you are a nitpick about game mechanics, Ego Draconis is such a hard game to get into. It took me HOURS of replaying the beginning to finally get over how the game generally felt XD

Just make sure it's not on a console *shudders*

Sacred 2 is not nearly as good as the first. I'd avoid it unless you find it cheap and have money to throw around.
My personal suggestions would be::

Starcraft 2
Trine [cheap game]
TorchLight [Cheap, and I found it way addicting. It's like a diablo meets WoW meets a new game]
Call of Juarez : Bound in Blood [another game you can find relatively cheap. little replay value imo]
Ghost Busters [fun as hell]

I have Sacred 2 on the 360 and it plays fine. The only real problem I had besides one uncompletable quest was the print was so damn small. Once I got my giant tv, it was fine.

Really? Because spamming the hell out of spells when the fill the screen kills your frame-rate

Ontop of that, 90% of the 'point-and-cast' skills are way more complicated than they need to be. Shards of Ice comes to mind, when the distance from yourself you click to cast, changes how large the arc of ice is. On consoles, you have to sit there and let it auto-adjust based on how close the monster is to you.

Ah, there's the difference. I hardly ever used much magic, so never really had the frame rate issues.

The load times are rather ridiculous I will admit.

Ya, it was REALLY bad. I remember my first encounter with a boss. I believe it was the giant Kolbalt or whatever it is, and it has like 20 minions around it. My friend was attacking the boss and when I Went to torch all the little guys with the travelling flame, the game literally stopped. It looked like 8 seconds were missing between each frame that popped up, and my friend was like "...why are you dead?", and I was like "I am? On my screen everything is still dying a flaming death."

And alot of the skills rely on gauging a distance to cast spells. It svcked doing a 180degree arc with ice shards when your enemy was punching you in the face.

I also assume you played in HD. Because non HD, you can't read text. I was at my friends house and I was like "dude. I'm not playing this game here anymore" lol

Yeah, it was quite frustrating on my old tv. Right up at the screen, practically nose to glass, and still like, "What the hell does that say?"

maybe try a game you really liked but haven't played in a long time. and not necessarilly a rpg or open world rpg, because you'd already know where every thing is and thats not really starting off fresh. games that usually involve randomly generated maps live the civ series or whatever are pretty replay able.

you know, so you can save your cash for skyrim collectors edition...

M&B Warband.

This.

Also, Nehrim: At Fates Edge is an absolute must if you haven't played it yet. It's a TC mod for Oblivion, so it's free. But don't let the TC thing fool you... it's more than good enough to be a full game in it's own right. In fact, many people (like myself) consider it to be superior to any TES game made.

Aside from that, if you're looking for a decent-ish RPG you could maybe look into Two Worlds II. It's not amazing, and it's sure as hell no TES game... but it was very entertaining for 40hrs+.
