I'm going to Costa Rica

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:39 am

This September I'm going to be in Costa Rica and I'm going to be helping out a group of doctors there for a few weeks. It costs $1000, and I'm paying my own way, I can hardly wait, it will be the experience of a lifetime. I'm getting my passport and everything now so I'll be ready. I'm not getting paid to do any of this, and I'm going to be eating the same food as the locals, it's not going to be a vacation either, I'm going to be working for a good 12-14 hours a day. Of course, once I come back I'll be sure to share my experience with everyone here. The only other country I've ever been to is Jonathanland, and I reckon this will be a vastly different experience than visiting a first-world city-state. Anyone have any words of advice or words of advice?

Make sure your vaccinations are up to date

If you have a sensitive stomach don't drink the water (including ice cubes in drinks made from local water) It's supposed to be clean if you are in the city but it is a different area then you are used to and has different bacteria so it could make you sick at first.

I hear the water in Costa Rica isn't that unhealthy/bad. Unlike Mexico, where it's horrible.

My brother and a group of friends went there a couple years ago, from what I heard of his trip it would be smart to keep to items secure at all times. He said not dangerous but some poorer locals will make every attempt to steal your belongings. They where staying in a small housing area for tourist and the house next to them got broken into. You might be in a totally different situation, but these are just things too keep in mind.

See if there's a similar program in your area.

Well. From my perspective, you sir. Are friggen nuts.

You're going to be spending alot of money, to work, for nothing. To live in shoddy conditions, and quite possibly have a chance of contracting some sort of disease or illness(es) due to the extreme change general life-style and going to a place that is probably not the cleanest in the world.

But, I do see the possible experience and life experience you would gain from this. So in a sense, I am sort of jealous [i'd rather just go to a snowy place in Europe, but that's just me].

Goodluck sir! Don't die.

Sure will.

I laughed pretty hard at the thought of you sitting at your computer with that facial expression, trying not to fall off my chair at how you must of said 'Sure will'.
