Recommend me music, please?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 2:06 am

I am a big fan of ska and punk music. I listen to a lot of stuff, though I am up to suggestions that people have. Just wanted to see if there were any other fans here on the forums who could recommend me some good bands. Some of my favorites are Streetlight Manifesto, Less Than Jake, Common Rider, Choking Victim, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Riverboat Gamblers, just to give a few examples.

You need to go back in time to some vintage British Ska:

If you want something a bit more obscure, this was bunged out on a friend's label about 15 years ago and I thought it was pretty catchy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-6GyuEEt20. I know absolutely nothing about them except for that one track.

AWarAgainstSound - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXkbQmG7dmA (the album this is taken from - a three way split between Stand Out Riot, AWAS and Sense of Urgency - is one of the best skacore albums you will ever hear in your life)
Mouthwash - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdgjJJhJOa0
The Skints - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTRBjxBmUCY (probably the best British reggae/ska band around at the moment)
Bad Religion - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XRt5cbNhUo, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12kcpP-8jfM, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1PgiBpTtao

The Stooges - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJIqnXTqg8I, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mZ0sSStW6Y (take it back to the start...)
The Clash - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqcizZebcaU

I haven't watched any of these videos because I don't have a million years of time, so apologies if any are low quality or have stupid fan animations or slideshows on them or something. Also, I didn't know how much you already knew, so there's some fairly obvious bands in there you probably have heard, but there's also loads that you probably wont, so do check 'em out :)

Also, a bunch of British bands which are awesome but not well known enough to have decent quality videos on YouTube (they might have MySpace pages or something though...):
The Hostiles, Dirty Revolution, Revenge of the Psychotronic Man, Broken Nose, ACiD DROP...

Punk is one of my favorite genres. When I finish posting this, I'm actually gonna go through all the other suggestions. :D

Try:

Rise Against (Prayer of the Refugee - Savior - Survive - Ready To Fall - Worth Dying For - Paper Wings - The Good Left Undone)
Blink 182 (Feelin' This - Dammit - Every Time I Look For You - All The Small Things - Rock Show)
Sum 41
Alesana (This Conversation Is Over - Apology - Pathetic, Ordinary - What Goes Around)
Bad Religion
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (Face Down - In Fates Hands - You Better Pray)
Fall Out Boy (Dance, Dance - Sugar, We're Going Down - A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me - This Ain't A Scene)
The All American Rejects (Dirty Little Secret - I Wanna - Swing Swing)
Green Day (American Idiot - Holiday - The Saints Are Coming)
The Used (All That I've Got - I Caught Fire - Empty With You - Pretty Handsome Awkward)
Silversun Pickups (Substitution)
Simple Plan (Welcome To My Life)
Panic! At The Disco (I Write Sins, Not Tragedies)
My Chemical Romance (Na Na Na - Teenagers - Give 'Em Hell, Kid)
Black Tide (Honest Eyes - Live Fast, Die Young - Show Me The Way)

Not all of these bands are pure Punk, but they definitely do have a few songs that fit the genre. It would honestly take me a while to link all the songs on my iTunes by these bands, so I just typed out a few suggestions you could check if you're interested (plus, I'm too lazy to link all these :P ). Yeah, I know some of these bands are considered "overrated" and what not, and I don't particularly like certain songs but I thought you might, so I thought I'd mention them anyway!

Nah. I am not a fan of some of the bands you listed. At the same time, I am pretty big on Sum 41, older Greenday, Rise Against and the like.
