What should I get my friend for her birthday?

Good idea. She actually had her watch stolen last week and was really upset over it.

Sorry to disappoint you but this isn't a gag thread like the Suffca fan club. :P

Well the last game she bought was the new Mortal Kombat and I remember her talking about Persona. She's into shonen anime, so things like Bleach, Death Note, Black Butler, etc. Unfortunately, I have no artistic skill.

I was going to give her a Death Note but it just so happens that she received that last year on her birthday. :(

Well if she′s into shonen anime there is a lot out there, but oftentimes manga can out perform shonen anime, and the manga of Kekkaishi is quite nice. If she doesn′t mind a little gore and advlt content Berserk is just about the best shonen manga you can find. Biggest problem is of course that it′s all quite expensive.

If you′ve heard her talk about the persona series and she doesn′t have the games but does have a PS2 then Persona 3 or even 4 is quite a given. Persona 3 is better but Persona 4 is quite good too.

If she liked Death Note perhaps she would like Code Geass, or as she liked Bleach it′s quite possible she′d like Fullmetal Alchemist (be warned, if you′re going to buy her the anime but not the manga, go for the one called "Brotherhood" it follows the manga quite a bit more than the original episodes did I′ve heard).

It can all be kinda expensive though and if you have a 20$ budget you may be better off trying to find something related to her interests, as some have suggested plush doll of characters could work well, heck there is even a character called Kon in Bleach that is a plush doll. Perhaps a CD with OST (Original Sound Tracks) from some anime she has seen can work too.

Shonen? That's no good. It's time to step things up, make 'er grow some chest hair! Volume 13 of Berserk oughta' do it!

Meh never start in the middle or end, volume 1 or nothing. :P Always start at the beginning I say.

Maybe some sort of memorabilia (like a statuette or T-shirt) of her favorite anime/manga?

Failing that, a giant box of tampons.

Indeed it is, my bad. It has taken quite the turn to the Shonen side lately though with the latest chapters. Less dark and gritty and more friendly troupe on adventures.

It's nice to see your friends care so much about you :P

I guess they do, in their own way. :P I told them to never get me presents a few years back, because I have everything I want/need already. And then they made it their mission to get me something I don't already have and what I "desperately want/need" every year. This year, I got a Justin Bieber & other celebs (including the Twilight star cast...) cut-out paper doll book. They were right, I didn't have one of those yet!

You're a dead man. If you don't get her exactly what she is expecting she'll rip off your head and svck out your insides through a straw.
this may be an exaggeration, but it raises a good point: she may not like you had to ask so it could have been woman talk for "you don't know me well enough to know what i want for my birthday? you need to catch up, man" , women expect you to know, they drop hints and they expect you to pick those up. but then again, maybe she really does mean what she said and you are good to really get her anything withing her general interests range.

speaking of woman talk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezVib_giTFo, hurry and get yours today. (joke video, of course)

For a girlfriend, I'd agree with you but for a platonic friendship, I really don't think shes going to be too torn up about it. If she does, then I guess you learnt something about her, right?

You can never go wrong with Gorilla Glue. And if she isn't the glue-type-of-girl, you can get her Gorilla Tape.

For a girlfriend, you should know what she wants, or at least have a good idea. For just a friend I really don't think it matters too much that he had to ask.
