Another one I forgot is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shellow_Bowells in Essix, though the etymology of its name needs to be rewritten to be more amusing.

Weed is mentioned in Of Mice and Men, its where Lenny and George came from before working in Soledad.

Also, a town called http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&safe=active&biw=1600&bih=794&q=south+woodham+ferrers&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x47d8dc533aad07ab:0x755c4f6906fd7337,South+Woodham+Ferrers,+Chelmsford&gl=uk&ei=46HqTcTeK8eahQedhLG6Bg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBsQ8gEwAA in southern England has some roads named after places and people in Tolkien's legendarium :foodndrink:

I've been there <_<

total miss representation of the place :(

no rum, no beer, and certainly no six :flame:

then I find out, no coffeeshop :swear:

needless to say, it's now better know as "Big-hole-in-the-ground-where-Andy-blew-it-to-kingdom-come",

...but apparently that's too long for google maps :nope:

I know, i only remember it because it's one of the first villages after the afsluitdijk.

I wonder if S[censored]horpe is censored - if so, the town in Lincolnshire that causes much hilarity for falling foul of autocensors everywhere!

Edit: which also reminds me of Grope[censored] Lane, a formerly commonplace streetname that was a rather literal description of the sort of trades plied there. We had one here in Oxford, but it's since been renamed to Magpie Lane, inexplicably.
