New Neverwinter Nights

There's a reason Cryptic's Neverwinter isn't called Neverwinter Nights 3. According to Jack Emmert, CEO of Cryptic, "Neverwinter represents a different style of game than the others. This is an online, co-operative RPG with a large focus on the online aspect. Therefore it is different than the other two. Also, I'm a big believer in simplicity. As far as I can figure, Neverwinter Nights games were about Neverwinter -- I have no idea why it was night time. So why not just call it Neverwinter."

A majority of the game's action will take place within and in the sewers below the city of Neverwinter, and occasionally bleed out into the nearby environs. Andy Velasquez, producer at Cryptic, explains the story setup. "It's about 100 years past what most players are familiar with from Neverwinter Night and Neverwinter Nights 2." Things have been hectic around Neverwinter, as they tend to be. A volcano blew up, taking most of the city with it. Foreign powers then entered the city to try and put the pieces back together. It's in this period of rebuilding that the game begins, where there's a clashing of interests as those who cling to the old ways of the city lock horns with the newcomers. Emmert added, "To sum up, you're going to kill monsters and get loot."

Sigh  lol

The way he comes off in that interview make me instantly not care about the game.

Doesn't sound that different, wasn't the online play the only reason people played the first two as well?

Oh yay, an excuse to rename yet another sequel to a movie/game series into something that will confuse newcomers. I am so sick and tired of this. Either use numbers with subtitles if necessary and stop trying to avoid the fact that you're milking it too much or don't bother making the game. Holy [censored] [censored], that just screams "We're too ashamed to admit that there are too many entries in this series".

Excuse that little rant...pet peeve of mine. :P

Edit: Just imagine my possible rage if TES V was titled Elder Scrolls, without a number and dropping the The. I'd explode.

It's not a sequel, I don't think. And Neverwinter is the name of the town it takes place in, which is a D&D location, so it's not like BioWare invented it.

All subsequent games in a series, even if they're prequels or sequels, should be numerically labeled in the order that they were developed and released. Why is Deus Ex: Human Revolution not Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution? It's the third game. Why is every sequel in the Pirates series not numbered? If I didn't know beforehand, I'd end up watching them out of order by complete accident.

It just irks the hell out of me. These numberless titles are just a pathetic attempt to hide the sheer number of subsequent films, only serves to confuse people, and worst of all, is borderline showboating by the creators who are basically saying "This is a reboot, and that fresh, numberless title means it's going to be [censored] awesome and way better than before", something that is usually completely wrong.

All IMO, of course. Feel free to dismiss everything I just said and think whatever you want. I feel like the AVGN, who went on a similar rant regarding series like Alien. It went from that to Aliens, Alien 3, then ditched the numbers and started subtitling them. My god, that's just..annoying to me.

I'm not too pleased that all of my favorite Bioware and Obsidian Aurora Engine RPGs are being succeeded by MMO's.

I agree.

If it's a full blown mmo, with subscriptions, I'll be one angry man!

First they murder my beloved KOTOR, and now this...
