Some accuracy about what LARPing actually involves

When I hear the word LARP or think LARPing I think of http://tosh.comedycentral.com/video-clips/web-redemption---the-larper-s-extended-interview.

I'll never understand how a video with a guy yelling out lighting bolt got 1 million views on youtube and made it to tosh.0.

I'm already a computer video game geek I don't think I could stoop as low as LARP. That's just me if LARPing is your thing well don't let me ruin your fun I'll just stick with blowing [censored] up in video games.

I've known quite a handful of LARPers, and they are far more mature, intelligent and social than most video gamers I've met. All of them married, with happy families and living normal life.

LARPs do have very very strict rules. Due to its possible disturbance that may cause, you don't swing your weapons around, you don't touch anyone physically, you don't force anyone to do anythnig that could harm anyone's body. There must be a GM there as a judge to regulate the going of the game. You may use dice or paper scissor rock to determine success of certain feats.

Sometimes I found it more comfortable taking company with my LARP friends (I don't LARP) than some of my local friends because they are generally more social and more considerate people.

By the way. I'd like to go on the record I don't think losers LARP. I know people have different interests. My friends find me odd for taking a huge, huge interest in Anime, especially drawings and paintings.

Personally I just can't imagine myself running around in a chainmail coif swinging a sword at someone

Agreed. I have no interest in wearing contacts and fangs to look vampiric/werewolf either.

Wearing a chainmail could be a fun experience, but swinging a sword at someone is definately not. In LARP you may carry that sword, or unsheath it, but you cannot by LARP etiquette make life threatening gestures to your target.

Interesting LARP etiquettes. Must be a non-European thing. :shifty:
Seriously though, weapons are checked for their inability to harm anyone. Almost every LARP stops at fibreglass core with foam and latex cover. Those things can't harm you more than a baby's spoon.

As a fencer, I can assure you its ridiculously fun to swing a sword at someone. Whether it be your Olympic foils and sabres, re-enactment rapiers to steel swords, crossing swords with someone is almost the most fun anyone can have with another person.

What fun would it be to play a crazed fire mage if you can't look at people like total maniac and threaten them with a huge stick?
