"The ancient Nords used to worship dragons"

We could have seen this coming for a few months now, and I believe this has been mentioned in a few articles as well. But in the E3 gameplay demo, Todd explicitly said that "the ancient Nords used to worship dragons":
However, as far as I know, we have no indication for this in the lore. In fact, Alduin world-eater and his Jills are the antagonists in the Nordic pantheon. Their most important god was Shor, or Lorkhan, and as far as we know he has no connection to dragons.

So, why would Nords worship dragons, the minions of the despicable Elven god Auri-El, world-eater and bane of men? And how does Thu'um as the Dragon language fit into all of this?
