Wouldn't it be more interesting to earn the title of dovahki

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:32 pm

Thread poll says it all. Would you rather start out as the kickass hero or would rather start out as the average schmo that later comes to the power of the dragon shouts.

IMO I think would be more interesting to earn it and endow a real sense of accomplishment rather than a stupid achievement notice.

It's been confirmed for awhile that you don't immediately know you're Dovahkiin until you get to a part of the game that includes a scripted encounter with a dragon, in which the Greybeards then shout out Dovahkiin.

You cannot choose whether or not you have a dragon's soul. Discovering that you're actually born to be awesome later in life is a possibility. Kind of like in Morrowind.

That made me laugh....

But yes, it's hard to earn something like that. Discovering it is another story. Since dragons presumably just started (re)appearing, your abilities probably hadn't even been noticed until you start running in to them.

They could make it a quick time event. "Press X to kick".

Kick fast enough and you're born with the soul of a dragon!

One thing is knowing you are dovahkiin, another thing is being it. You are confusing the two. Dovahkiin is not a "title", its what you ARE.

I know that.

Yes you are born the Dovahkiin but I was asking if we had the ability to change the lore.

Would it be more interesting to complete a series of quests or conditions to become one?

Well there was other Neo Nerevarine Dragonborns before, be born with soul of dragon will not automatically make you prove to be Dovahkiin,
I think there will be trials to prove to be Dovahkiin in game, climbing at 7000 steps of High Hrothgar, come trough all trials of Greybeards and maybe stop political chaos in Skyrim, only after thats we become real antagonists to Alduin, before thats we just talented Voice user with strange inborn trait of absorbing souls of Dragons (and maybe other souls as well since confirmed thats we can consume Soul Gems for Magicka restoration, seems something like powers of Soul Eater from Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer or Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver soul devour to me).

Lol, yeah, that would be akin to some sort of messed up rebirth. You don't get rewarded, your just born that way. You can ignore your destiny I suppose, but your only special because you were born that way.

Exactly the point. Dovahkiin in the story is used to describe what someone is i.e born with a dragons soul. Dovahkin is not a title given out such as Arch Mage, which is the title you were given once you completed the mages quest line in Oblivion.

Didn't you know? The game starts a bit like Spore does.

[Witch] "There is something special about you, your destiny is in written in the stars."
[Dovahkiin] "Pray expound, o wise and wizened crone."
[Witch] "Not so fast boyo! First I want ten minotaur horns, then thirty samples of flax seeds, and when you've done that........."

It's something you're born with, thus it's "dragonborn".. I think.. :)

The fact that you know nearly nothing about the main quest and how it will turn out makes your complaint completely void. Sure, you know that you start off as a prisoner being led to his/her execution, you eventually get a mentor, you eventually figure out that you're Dovahkiin and that dragons are involved, and yet with this little amount of information you still think you know enough to complain about the accomplishments regarding the storyline? You complainers make me sick.

So, how do you retroactively earn the status of having been born with a dragon's soul? I mean you know, considering that you were born before the game started, and thus must have had the draconic soul in question before the game started- so how do you "earn" what you've had all along?

"You lived in denial of concrete reality until just now" achievement unlocked.

Bad idea.

You are borned as dragonborn, you cannot then be dragonborn later - unless you are not mutated.
