Dreamweaver...

From what I gather, this topic has been beaten to death, but any clarification would be much appreciated, as I have tried to do my homework.

Is there a text that I am missing that deals with this? I searched the Imperial Library and all it turns up are the Nu-Mantia intercepts. All useful information I have gathered has been from lurking around this forum. Here goes. When you die, be you Nord or Khajiit your soul gets svcked up into the Dreamsleeve where all your knowledge, memories, powers, and your identity is stripped away. You are then reincarnated on Nirn... somewhere, in something.
1 Is this process totally random? I would expect it doesn't work in the way that a bad person will be put into the body of a mudcrab, seeing as how the farther up you go in the Mundus power structure good and evil mater less and less.
2 What role dose Arkay have in all this? Is the dreamsleeve his domain? Perhaps he and other gods all play a part in the eternal soul shuffle, or is Arkay simply the ferryman into the dreamsleeve?
3 How much of your identity is actually stripped? The Nerevarine rather befuddles me, it is stated that nerevarine has the soul of nerevar dose it not? Dose bringing down the tribunal happen simply because the elder scrolls say it dose, was it the will of Nerevar, or because of Azura? Is the nevevarine even the best example of reincarnation or simply the most famous?

I had to do some searching at the Imperial Library in regards to your 2nd question. I remembered reading an in-game book on Arkay but I had a hard time finding it again. It was because it was a Daggerfall book, and the title spells Arkay's name like "Ark'ay."

The book: http://www.imperial-library.info/content/daggerfall-arkay-god tells the story of how a mortal became the god of death through Mara. It also briefly describes what his duties are supposed to be.

I was under the impression that when you die, your soul goes to the Dreamsleeve and is mixed into almost a slurry, from which all new souls come, and then everyone born after you died is technically a reincarnation of you.

Now, don't quote me on that, I heard it a long time ago, and I may have been experimenting with Jet at the time. But that's what I heard.

In its original inception, I understand the dreamsleeve was meant to be a sort of instant information conduit between weirdo mages and Imperial bureaucrats that required part of the user's mind to be in constant meditation, like the weirdo mage version of Dropbox.

Later, it was connected (primarily through similar naming and imagery) to significantly bigger topics like reincarnation. I have always been under the impression that was almost entirely a forum-made connection that somehow found purchase in the community.

Thats kind of what i gathered from the Nu-Mantia intercepts. Rather confusing...

Ya, any "official" texts that mention the dreemsleeve at all seem to be few, and far between.

Interesting, but seems to be refuted by both Nerevar(?), and the whole Dovahkiin/dragonborn thing.

Maybe those specific souls don't go through the dreamsleeve? Maybe some higher entity is "holding on" or guiding those souls in some sort of scheme.

There isn't simply one dreamsleeve either. In the TES novel, Umbriel has its own dreamsleeve thing going on in the sumps. And I'm pretty sure that the novel basically confirms that the Hist act as a dreamsleeve for Argoinians.
