Rewarding and balanced levelling this time around?

I think it's pretty obvious that Oblivion's leveling curve and progression were unintuitive and often punishing if you played the game "normally". By normally I mean picking the major skills that you planned on using the most, and leveling them up.

Another problem was monster HP progression, which scaled faster than item progression. In short, monsters always became tougher even though you've gotten better and better gear, you were falling behind anyway.

In conclusion, the best way to play Oblivion was a really awkward and unintuitive one I am sure most of you are aware of - it would involve picking major skills that you would never use, holding back your leveling progress as much as possible etc.

Have devs confirmed in more detail how they plan to address this in Skyrim?

I would like to see an answer to this one too. I had to play Oblivion with the +5 mods as the vanilla set up was painful.

It's already been confirmed for months that Level Scaling will be like that of Fallout 3's.

Yes, it is fixed to some degree. As Thefriendlybear already said, it'll be like FO3 now, which, if not perfect, is a huge improvement over OB's system.

I for one am looking forward to Skyrim's leveling system. I'm going to try my hand at one of the harder dungeons (if i find it) and see how far I can get. I'm sure I'll get my [censored] handed to me, so I'll go away and do a little bit more leveling up somewhere else then come back to the hard dungeon later. Far more satisfying and a better sense of reward/achievement.

(I really hope I'm not making this up.)
I'm pretty sure I heard that instead of leveling up based on increasing your "major" skills, major skills have been removed and leveling is based on increases to ALL skills.
(Part of why athletics was removed as a skill.)
So, whacking monsters, repairing armor, casting healing spells, EVERYTHING contributes slightly to leveling up, instead of your major skills contributing significantly. To balance this, raising a skill from 30-40 contributes more to leveling than raising it from 10-20, which encourages specialization.

In addition, the removal of Oblivion's level scaling means that leveling up will no longer be something to avoid, but instead a legitimate increase in your strength allowing you to battle stronger enemies.
