No decapitations/removing of body parts?

Post » Sun Jun 12, 2011 9:57 am

I've seen all the demo trailers & one thing thats caught my eye is the lack of any sort of realistic damage to the bodies, we had a few death animations with various weapons like that wolf who was killed with the sword, which looked rather weak (the hero swung a heavy swing on its head but it just fell down dead!) & the undead guy who got axed in the head... I'd like to see some real damage to these things maybe not as much as fallout 3 but some decapitations & limbs been cut off here & there makes it abit more realistic yeah? Think this could be changed in Skyrim? I'd like to see that Axe go through the skull somewhat & leave the head split in two!

Agreed, OP. Needs to be more realistic gore. Nuff said.

Would they show gore-enabled stuff on E3 coverage? I dont really pay attention to these kind of things but would suspect that either they want to keep it family friendly looking or they are waiting to announce their dismemberment. That or they just didnt want to bring that aspect of FO into the game.

From what I've seen I think its perfect now. Its an amp up from Oblivion but too much gore just wouldn't be in Elder Scrolls fashion.

Dismemberment would be a great thing to add to the game and people should have the option to turn it on or off.

I also would sword slash wounds and mace bash wounds but I think this would require to much development as to calculate the size of the wound from where your weapon had hit.

Maybe they could add a simplified version of it which I would love but if they don't add it I would understand.

I like the gore the way it is. Fallout's was too cartoonish like punching someones head off, or shooting someone in the foot and the whole leg falls off. I know you said "not as bad", but I think it's fine the way it is.

Agreed. Only thing I'd ask is to eliminate the blood splatter on the screen, or a toggle to shut it off at least Might work for the military games genre, but is hardly realistic when I'm hiking about in the open air. Detracts IMO.

Well you see even with the kill animations melee still seemed rather boring compared to magic in that demo, better than Oblivion don't get me wrong but without the odd dismemberment kill animation i feel it will get stale rather quickly. I'm just trying to help bethesda make melee more interesting!

I hope they don't include the Bloody Mess perk from Fallout 3. That was over the top ridiculous, which suited certain aspects of Fallout, but would not fit in the ES, imo. I don't want explosions of blood and piles of body parts laying everywhere.

I doubt they will put in decapitations but they wanted the combat to be more visceral so maybe.
If they put it in then fair enough but if they don't it won't matter to me much.

Having enemies fountain blood in the air, or having limbs flying about would make me lose interest very quickly. There are very few enemies I feel the need to hack into little chunks. From the demo and the screenshots that are out, I think the melee combat is fine without tripping over dismembered limbs or playing kickball with a head.

I know others will have different opinions though.

It isn't make or break for me if there is no gore. Blood spatter like the ones in Oblivion were good enough for me. While there may be a substantial crowd that wants this, Bethesda knows it probably won't sell as many copies if they include full-detailed gore.

Which is fine with me.

If they did, it would have to take in a whole new level of complexity.

Armor would matter - someone in full plate mail shouldn't be getting decapitated, as no normal sword or axe is going to cut through it. Doing so would just look absurd.

Weapons would matter - blunt weapons shouldn't make limbs fly off, nor should daggers or arrows, etc.

A huge amount of effort would need to be expended to implement decapitation well. Anything less would just look like a goofy mess.

I agree i'm not asking for the over the top amounts of gore fallout 3 had. I'm just asking for some gore on the odd occasion. Atm the models are completely untouched in anyway, no matter what weapon you use they just fallover... that hurts immersion imo & is not as fun.

I agree with you there, that perk was too much and wouldn't fit ES. However I would like to see some minor slashes and cuts to appear on the player character and NPCs body.

My understanding from some of the more accurate books I've read on these sorts of subjects is that dismemberment and decapitation are very difficult or impossible to actually perform unless you have a weapon specifically designed for it, and even then it takes training to know where to hit and a lot of luck. So I'd be okay with dismemberment if it only happened when you were using, like, an axe or a scimitar, and only after level 25, and as often as finding a shiny pokemon :P

Theres a scene in 1 demo where a duel wielder cuts & slices a guy dead, it looked pretty terrible. Both swords impaling the guy would have looked better, perhaps with the two wounds remaining on the corpse afterwards would be cool. Not to gorey but enough to satisfy people who want some gore.

Enough talk about the bloody mess perk please, this thread is NOT about that level of over-the-top ridiculous Gore that Fallout 3 had, there has to be a medium somewhere. I feel Bethesda hasn't got it right in any game yet. Its too much gore that its unbelievable or no gore at all which is unbelievable.

i wouldnt mind dismemberment
it woulddnt really bother me, plus if i hit an arm with an ax i would expect it to come off
as long as its realistic gore unlike fallout id be fine with it
(fallouts gore wasnt bad, but it only fit fallouts crazy theme and wouldnt work for skyrim)

I am perfectly fine with no decapitations and extreme gore in a TES game. In fact, I prefer it to be this way.

I'm not asking for extreme gore, learn to read. I want some wounds on the models & the odd beheading or something like that, not none at all.
