Should I just forget about using Mods/

BOSS sorts automatically, and also provides a log file with usual content--such as noting when you have an out-of-date ESP that can be replaced, or some potential ESP conflicts. You can take action on these or not; it's your choice. But again, the sorting of your load order is done by BOSS.

Don't worry for now about cleaning your files with TES4Edit, or Wrye Bash. Just get up and running. Plenty of time once you've played for a bit to consider other matters. ;)

Thank you. I have just opened the game and it's running okay, so that's a good thing. hehehe. I'll try and learn more about the cleaning program, as it does look productive.

The cleaning is optional, BOSS will automatically sort the esp and esm files that it recognises, but the ones it does not recognise may need to be hand sorted.

Will it tell me if it does not recognize files? I had no indication of this, but again, I only have the one set of mods installed so far, and until I learn more, I'm holding off on adding more.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the hand-holding, bradleyh. I couldn't have accomplished this without your help, as well as TomLong's simple instructions, and others who also pitched in. Thank you all very much!

Running Boss creates a BOSSlog inside the BOSS folder, the log will tell you if it does not recognise a mod. If you are just using well known mods you may never a mod it does not sort automatically. Glad I could help.
