Finishing moves: they are automatic, and sometimes force you

Post » Mon Jun 13, 2011 2:52 pm

I strongly oppose forced third person or slow-mo finishing moves. Automatic finishing moves will depend on the move itself. My preference would be to make them optional but ultimately I'll likely get the game on PC and try to mod them out if they annoy me enough.

One nice thing about the assassination animations in Halo: Reach, they were optional and under the players control.

Putting me in 3rd person will upset me. Slow-mo might be cool, or it might be taking me out of combat and aggravating me.
I'd like some options here.

I don't like how finishers have been handled.

I hope they're optional, like the Kill Cam in NV.

This is vastly disappointing. Up to now, it seemed Bethesda was doing a great job with the finishing moves, presenting emotions in combat that are new to the Elder Scrolls. This sounds so monstrously horrible it could be the first thing I've heard that may ruin the game for me. Particularly forcing third-person. If I want to watch finishing moves in third-person, I'll play in third-person. I think the reason they are doing it is because it's hard to do finishing moves on large creatures like Dragons and mammoths without moving the player, which might seem unnatural and be difficult to implement in first-person. In any case I don't like what Bethesda is doing with finishing moves at all.

There needs to be an neutral option in the poll, because I'm rather neutral to all of it.

FORCED THIRD-PERSON?!?!?!?! SLOW MOTION?!?!?!?!?! Bethesda... WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!?! I hope all these things are completely optional... all of them, even finishing moves, in general. However, whole I thought finishing moves were kind of cool and while I'm a bit indifferent on them being forced or not (although I can see them getting annoying repetitive), the forced third-person and the slow motion sound like horrible ideas. Forced third-person? This series started off as a purely first-person series, and now we are being forced to switch to third-person throughout the game's combat?

I don't think that's what it means when it forces you into third person, I think it forces you to sometimes view the animation in third person, but then returns to first person.

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but it sounds like you imagine you have to be in third person to do the kills or it leaves you in third person after one.

I dont mind finishing moves but I do however dislike that they're automatic and the fact that they force you into third person. (even though I mostly play in 3rd person)
I'd like it if it was like with deadly reflex. Actually.. I dont recall if it forces you into 3rd person, Im fairly certain it doesen't... Anyhow, In DR it's completly manual and you have to actually set it up by bashing or kicking the enemy before being able to use finishing moves, also the enemy often has to be at somewhat low health.

Ofcourse none of us know exactly how it'll work in skyrim, but I'm hoping it'll work atleast similar to DR. Enemy has to be bashed/kicked, (if that's in the game, I know bashing is but haven't seen kicks) isn't automatic, doesen't force you into 3rd person and that the enemy has to be at low health.

The only thing I dislike even the slightest about finishing moves is the forced third person thing...

I'm glad it's in slow motion. In games like Force Unleashed games doing combos and stuff as a finisher on the harder difficultly levels would just leave you opened to get mobbed or the attack distrupted by a bunch of the other enemies around was kind of a pain getting killed while your stuck in an animation watching your health bar go down to zero then starkiller fall down dead after the animation finishes.
3rd person doesn't bother me I switch between first and third when I'm walking around and fighting in the last 2 Elder Scroll games.
