Chicago: The Land Of Possibilities...

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:07 pm

Hello all,

I was just reading on a earlier thread about Chicago and have to say it would make for a amazing game location (Thats not what this thread is about though :) ). I was wondering, though, how The Enclave and MW BoS would tie in with each other, as well as other factions. I have played Tactics, and have completed all possible endings. From what I have come to understand, there is no real official cannon ending. That leaves a few possible scenarios for future games. So, I would like to get the forum's ideas of what is most likely the state of the mid west and what is most likely the condition of the factions that we know of.

What we do know is that there is a Enclave presence in Chicago, large enough to intercept a eye-bot (ED-E) covering a distance the size of Chicago

We Know that there are 3 different ending possibilities for the MW BoS faction and they determine the ethnic layout of the Mid West (BoS under Barnaky would exterminate all Mutants/Ghouls, for example)

And we know Casear's Legion has Captured BoS scribes in the east (meaning they are not West Coast BoS)

What I would find logical is if the Enclave has taken to Chicago city as a Gorilla group and use a Military base under the city to use as their HQ. This would allow them to keep small numbers (100-300 people), but still manage to monitor the streets for anything coming in (like a Eye Bot) and manage to catch it. I would tend to believe that the MW BoS is likely smaller than at their peak when their numbers swelled and they incorporated non-humans into their ranks. I would also believe that they are somewhat more reserved now, and likely stick to their bunkers. This is due to the fact that ED-E made it through their heartland and didn't get caught by any of the "Tech Hoarding" BoS. That makes me believe that the BoS ended with the Barnaky ending and that the loss of the Mutants in the region could have weakened the BoS manpower into semi-hiding. We also know that the Legion is moving east, probably, and could be the dominate as the "non-hiding" faction. In other words, while the Enclave and BoS are underground working to advance their own agendas in a secretive way, the legion could be commanding the large swaths of open land that make up the Midwest.

Thats just an idea, but still, it sounds semi-logical and fun to play :P

So what do you all think of what is going on the the Mid West?

Cheers,
Mk II

There are four endings to Tactics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxXJFGh1qng which cause the Calculator to take control over the Midwestern Brotherhood.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4ewKOcVW2E Midwestern BoS, Calculator and mutants live in together and rebuild.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYS_Bo2ixNg Calculator is allowed to "die" and the Midwestern BoS go through long time of rebuilding their ranks but still get alot of pre-war tech and know how from Vault Zero.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2ZcpcO7C58 The best ending IMO.

We know the Midwestern BoS were in the Chicago as far back as 2197. Enclave were not there till some time after Fallout 2 in 2241. Midwestern Brotherhood did make it all the way to Colorado Springs, Colorado home of Vault Zero and Calculator. We know Bethesda said the High Level Events are canon so the ending are possible outcomes for a future game.

Now the only ending there that would bring about the "Hard Times" Talked about in Fallout 3 IMO is the Barnaky Ending.

Edit: :=: Enclave - Mk II :=: please add a poll to which ending people like best :fallout:

""I really hope the Barnaky ending is canon. the story would be awesome. the Enclave in Chicago would be alot like the MWBoS that have started to form a fascist military dictatorship that goes from Chicago to Colorado but the Enclave would have had to change as well. Dispite the BoS acting alot like them they are still impure in the eyes of the Enclave but if the Enclave in the area were smart they could become allies with the bos.

Way I see it. the MWBoS fight a bloody war against the Super Mutants and then the Calculator. they force settlements to aid them by giving food, ammo and their best and brightest. Many people do join willingly but the BoS treat them as cannon fodder. the Elders let mutations join because they can be very useful in places humans can't due to radiation.

Vault Zero falls to the BoS and Barnaky becomes one with the Calculator. the BoS are happy to have General Barnaky back. There is a push to make him the head Elder of the MWBoS. the famed warrior (you) who is also a General backs the move to make Barnaky the new head elder. Which he does become.

He soon recalls all mutations from the BoS armies and orders them back to their home bases were they are disarmed and tagged, later to be sent to work camps. BoS stops letting mutations join. Laws are pased and any mutation within the BoS' territory is to be rounded up and also sent to camps. (work/death camps) Which is the start of the great betrayal.

Elders that were most against Barnaky becoming head elder are removed from power. Soon purges happen with in the BoS, anyone that was against Barnaky or seen to aid mutations are also sent to the camps. Entire settlement get put to the flame. Soon the Mutant Liberation army forms. BoS caravans and outpost get hit. Work camps are liberated. the BoS see a dramatic fall in people willing to join the BoS. they start having desertions.

Human numbers are replaced more an more by calculator robots and more purges follow fearing an inside job. the BoS stop trying to contact the West in order to get their own house in order.

Biggest blow happens when rouge BoS members set off several bombs within Vault Zero in a failed coup d'état. Many of the calculators systems are damged beyond repair. Barnaky lives but finds has less control over the robotic forces. He can't control them all at once and the ability to make more robots is severely hampered.

Mutant Liberation Army makes allies with whats left of the reaver movement and are supplied with EMP weapons. the remaining slaver/raider groups once again become stronge and prey on BoS settlements and outposts.

Decades of bloody Guerrilla warfare against the MLA and the predation of other factions (slavers, raiders) have driven the MWBoS back to their remaining strongholds such as Vault Zero and Cities in between Colorado and Chicago.

Lyons and his BoS are sent out to make contact but don't really know where they are, they know the MWBoS went East. they took a path that takes them away from the MWBoS strongholds at Vault Zero and the others in the Midwest. As Lyons gets closer to DC he hears rumors of people that have similar tech and a simbol are in the area. Lyon spends along time hunting down those rumors. MWBoS fearing that Lyons is just the tip of a larger army coming up from the south west, do what they can to not be found by them.

Lyons is persistent and soon the MWBoS send out a group of their own elders to make contact. they tell Lyons that MWBoS are just a few hundred men and women close to Chicago. Lyons having made contact goes on to the more imprtaint mission of heading to DC.

Like the Barnaky ending states its a war the Mutant Liberation Army is distended to lose. MWBoS have seen bitter defeat after bitter defeat for generations and are now a shadow of their glory days but time is on their side. Mutations can't reproduce and the ones that don't fall to the BoS will be taken care of by father time. the humans and fellow bos memebers that sided with the MLA grow tired of fighting. Seeing as how they have crippled the MWBoS and liberated much of their territory. they just want to settle and farm, the threat is all but gone (so they think). After generations of war the younger generations don't take up the fight.

Maybe the MWBoS will find an ally in Augustus Autumn and his advanced tech can help the MWBoS take back what they lost."

lol I thought that the Bad Ending was Barnaky's :P

Anyway, thats interesting about the timeline...

That would mean that the BoS and Enclave where most likely allies of sorts... Or the "Hard Times" allowed a window of time for the Enclave to move into the City while the MW BoS dealt with it's own issues. In that other thread you said that the BoS would incorporate the Enclave into their faction, but that would not make sense from a military standpoint: You don't add people to your army who don't have loyalty to you, who, at the same time, are much more advanced in many ways. I would believe that the Enclave is likely semi-allied with the BoS then. Also, if they had been absorbed by the BoS, then ED-E would not have been sent to go through the Enclave held Chicago area seeing as there would have been no Enclave.

An alliance between two Mutant hating factions would be fun (and Hard times" point to the MW BoS leadership under Barnaky). Especially if they are fighting brutal salvers (CL). Haha... Everyone would be evil. I wouldn't be surprised if the Enclave was befriending the MW BoS while they secretly tried to reproduce the FEV virus to finish their plan of Global cleansing.

It would make for a very fun game though. Even if the FEV is added to kill all the world, like the Van Braun Nuclear ending.

"The hard times" I see for the Midwestern Brotherhood is a decades long war with the Mutant Liberation Army combined with a very parinoud General Barnaky that caused people to turn away from the BoS and ever rebel against the BoS. Along with Slavers, Raiders and Reavers rebuilding their power and causing problems. The Calculator gets damaged to the Robot Amry can't be controlled all at once and new Robots take longer to be built. Brotherhood are forced back to strongholds across the Midwestern United States.

Midwestern BoS can't produce their own PA so not every memeber gets one. Only the elite get the best weapons and armour. That is fact.

Enclave would have been worse off the Midwestern BoS. Midwestern BoS surround them and make a deal. Help us or die where you stand. Enclave take the deal and move on to DC. Only a couple dozen scientists are left behind, which they were going to do any way. The Midwestern BoS give them supplies and a base in exchange for more advanced tech/weapons. Midwestern BoS make sure they are well guarded. When Remnants come back from DC they learn more about the Midwestern BoS under Barnaky and their goals. Some see this as a chance to regain some power. A deal is made for Enclave leaders to become elders and the Enclave to remain independent body with in the Brotherhood ranks. Like IT gues for the Brotherhood. They help out the scribes and so on develope weapons to fight the enemies of the bos. Mutant Liberation army being the most pressing. Enclave leaders now elders start doing what Enclave do best. Become a shado government with the MWBoS and someday take total control.

Who knows, maybe the Enclave make a deal with Barnaky to help make humanity pure blood again like the Enclave. Maybe that was Augustus' idea all along and why he went against Eden. Maybe he wanted to find a way to make wastelanders pure through genetic engineering or breeding. Now he has a willing leader, Barnaky. That is willing to let the Enclave experiment to make humanity pure agian. Think about it people.

So in the end there would be a few hundred Enclave, mixed in with a few hundred MW BoS, that are separated by space, yet united by cause, While the Enclave works on making the BoS "pure human"? I could see that as somewhat possible. I would just find it hard to believe unless the Enclave takes control of leadership in the BoS. The idea of America unites the general populace of the Enclave, as we can see in Moreno in FO:NV. And the BoS would not easily give up control, if at all. And why would the MWBoS force the Enclave to join them? they are already weak enough as it is, and further fighting from another high tech faction would weaken it to the point of near collapse, even if they won. And personally, I think that the genetic re engineering is a bit far fetched as it is, meaning the Enclave would not easily cope with their new "members".

An alliance between the two groups seems a lot more plausible and less confusing from a story point of view. Exchange tech for supplies, or information, military support etc. It would also explain the FO3 PA that the Enclave uses.

And Im just going to nitpick here, but they didn't just leave behind scientists. They had soldiers that formed the patrols that are mentioned.

I like the good ending. Robots storming across the wasteland stomping on all the bad guys? That is something I would want to see.

As long as what we end up with isn't another load of 'Enclave vs BOS' crap, or have the Enclave as the main villains again, I'm fine.

I'd rather the Enclave have a very, very minimal presence, and have the BOS as the villains.

They could really pull the rug out from under us with Barnaky's ending... We have seen the Brotherhood as the neutral gray, and the unflinching white knights... It would be interesting to see them as either a much darker shade of gray, or down right black with there robot army. Heck I could even see an outcome where the Brotherhood is the evil faction, and the retreating Enclave are the good guys... a sort of lesser of two evils thing.

If they where to do the factions bit again I would love to see...

Mutant Liberation Army: Light gray

Brotherhood: Dark gray

Enclave: gray

The Legion: Dark gray

Wait let me fix your faction colors to words......

MLA- Good
Enclave- super evil
mid west bos- really mean/ bad
cl- dumb and evil, but not super evil, but if they are running from NCR they will be more like lost puppy dogs with that list of monsters.

Enclave and mid west bos will be enslaving them for cannon fodder lol

Some other new faction of some sort needs to align with the MLA.

I just hope I can t pack back everyone of them FTW ( EPIC ). At least give me the honar of death for the cause if I pick a loser.

I can t really vote since I never played it, but the whole idea is what Im hoping for. CL coming off a loss from NCR may be in a different frame of mind depending on the depth of their loss, and if NCR has enough left to pursue them. I think if CL takes the dam straight away, NCR counters with big big numbers from cali. They may try to end the Legion utterly.

What would be really sweet is if you were playing fo4 and about half way through CL and NCR spilled into the mix from the ensuing fallout over the dam.

All those groups might be too EPIC though.

Caeser will need thrown into the grand canyon, and the guy that led in Nipton should take over. He thinks outside of the cl box when it comes to combat.
