Audio Programs

I'm looking to do some voice-recording for my dungeon mod, and, of course, I need a good program in order to do so. At least, in order to do it right. And if I mean to have the main baddy of my dungeon scaring the hell out of anyone who doesn't eat werewolves for breakfast, I need to do it right.

I know there's a lot of software out there that could help me out with this, some of it free, some of it not, some of it good, some of it not, and I'd like to get the opinion of the modding community here as to their preferences/recommendations/etc. I know not everyone here has experience in such matters, but I'm sure there's enough of you.

In case it comes up, I have downloaded Audacity and toyed around with it a little. Don't know that I like it yet.
