Installing Oblivion On Win Vista x64

Post » Fri Jun 17, 2011 12:36 pm

First, my apologies, for posting a question that is asked 100s of times :( I searched and searched for the specifics on this, but still haven't found what I know I had found on a previous install - My HP dv9000 laptop had to be reformatted, so now I must re-install all softwares, including my Oblivion DVD GOTY version.

My question is this: What folder must I install the game into? I know, we are to avoid the regular program files folder, or something such as that. All I really need is a link to a step by step help file for Win Vista. Hope this doesn't sound ignorant, lol.

PC Specs:
Vista x64, service pack 2
Core-duo 2.1 x 2.1 ghz
Radeon 256mb video card (whatever version it is, it runs Oblivion flawlessly)
4086 mb ram
DirectX 11

I already have the Oblivion Script Extender v0017a for after install, on a flash drive ;-)

Thank you for any help guys.

Generally speaking, it's safest to create the folder C:/Games/ and install Oblivion there. I kept my old copy in a [My Username]/Games folder before I bought it off of Steam, but all the literature suggests that that's not actually much better than Program Files.

So the actual filepath you'd want is C:/Games/Oblivion if the game doesn't autocreate an "Oblivion" folder, or just C:/Games if it does. I don't remember any more which is the case.

I don't think it matters where you put it but you might have to run it in campatibility mode as an administrator. Right click on the startup file to select the appropriate option from the menu to do this.

Sweet! Thank you, to both of you! I will go ahead and create the C:/Games/ folder, just to play it safe. I do believe, this is how I did it before(a year ago) and had absolutely no problems with running the game. Will also check my run mode, just to play it safe.

Cheers, for the immediate and helpful responses! :)
