A constant Arena? Return to defend your title?

Post » Fri Jun 17, 2011 12:04 pm

Just thought i'd add this topic, Oblivion's neverending Arena fights were alright, but I think a bit more could be done to really draw you back. Not sure if Oblivion did it, but at least have the towns across the world speak of your accomplishment, base some of your Charisma off it.

Edit: Things like, returning back to the arena to defend your title, etc etc.

Yes! I loved the arena, it was great. Then the questline ended, and I was only able to fight.. what was it? Once a week? Against animals? That part svcked.

If they're going to do an arena, I don't want to see a Blue team/Yellow team thing. I'd rather the main questline be about wearing your own armor, using your own weapons and killing unique combatants who also have their own unique armor and weapons.... And when they are dead, you loot them and take their best stuff as a trophy or use it yourself.

Does it have to be a fight to the death? No, that's your choice. You want their stuff than kill them, but if you want to be merciful than let them live. That adds the freedom of choice. Of course you get money regardless of killing them.

I'd prefer if all the enemies aren't just humans either. I want to see some Daedra and monsters as well.

When you beat the main questline and become the champion, then they should allow to continue to fight monsters/humans... whenever you want, only they'll be random (of course) with rare/random rewards and they'll be tough.

This is just based from my personal experience that I got playing a Morrowind mod which was similar. When I finished it, I had a whole shelf filled with trophies of each combatant who I killed. Some of the trophies were weapons, pieces of armor like a helmet... all with their own unique abilities or enchantments. It was cool because they would say something like, "Bob's Mask" or something much more creative than that. That was cool. It gave me the feeling of accomplishment and true victory.

Fighting in different arenas before the main one would be a great add on too because it gives you a better sense of advancement and achievement.

Yes, it should be infinite. Should not be so hard to include, since now they have the right tool to do it: Radiant Story.

Absolutely, I want champions from all over Tamriel to challenge me, and they should of course be powerful adversaries.

Good idea. Not sure how it would work, but that quest line was pretty fun.

It should be more like this:

  • Fight at multiple pits
  • Gain fame
  • Attend the main arena
  • Become champion
  • Get challenged by upcoming combatants
  • Lose title if you refuse to accept

Yeah I always thought it was weird that it felt like you were the only new person to enter the arena from the games start to beginning. Once you hit champion I thought people would eventually challenge you. Maybe with the radiant ai people will join the arena if there is one.

This makes me think, with the new finishing move system, it would be intereseting to see an execution option.
When the enemy gets down to maybe 10% health, they drop to their knees or whatever and you get to choose whether or not to spare them or execute them.
And the choice you make could change your reputation to either a brutal gladiator fighting only for the joy of killing, or a merciful gladiator, fighting only to make a living.

I like this, and if they must force us into a uniform, at least give us an unarmored option.
