Playable Lich?

Do you think it would be cool to play as a Lich?, or involve some kind of quest like vampirism?

Yes! Lichs are, in fact, far cooler than vampires.

Y.E.S. Have liches/vampires/werewolves in the game, with each catering to a specific playstyle (lich for mages, vampires for assassin types and werewolves for warriors).

And werebears for Hircine's sake!

I haven't even thought of becoming a lich, but it's a cool path for the ultimate mage character to take, but what if you change your mind? Volkihar, other vampires, werebears, werewolves, wereboars (why not?) AND liches? That would be the coolest game ever, thought I'm sure it still will! :D

What's so great about playing as a Lich?

Besides Ma'iq said: "You wish to become a lich? It's very easy, my friend. Simply find the heart of a lich, combine it with the tongue of a dragon, and cook it with the flesh of a well-ridden horse. This combination is certain to make you undead." Isn't all those things in Skyrim?

"You wish to become a lich? It's very easy, my friend. Simply find the heart of a lich, combine it with the tongue of a dragon, and cook it with the flesh of a well-ridden horse. This combination is certain to make you undead." - M'Aiq the Liar

Liches were pretty brutal in Daggerfall.

But if you're a lich you are dead... Properly dead... EVERYONE will attack you on sight style...

With a werebeastie you're 'normal' most of the time.
With a vampire you can be kinda 'normal' all of the time.
With a lich you're a lump of decomposing flesh with a very bad reputation... It would be cool but I feel it wouldn't work too well in practise.

I know, I know...

I still fail to see what's so grat about the entire Lich-thing, If you want to be dead you can be a vampire for cryin' out loud.

Not really, Lich's are powerful simply add in an illusion spell for lich's only that allows them to resume human form for a short time.

lol, but NPC still make comments around you:

*Siff, Sniff* "I think there's a dead rat around here some place."

*Sniff, Sniff* "God, I haven't smelled anyting like that since I was in the Imperial sewers!"

I voted yes for the simple reason that more choices are great. The greater variety of things to do and explore is vital to the Elder Scrolls series. The main quest never changes (at least not significantly), afterall.

That said, being a Lich is a pretty iffy thing. As someone else mentioned, with a Werewolf or Vampire you can pretend to be a human, do normal interactions, participate in the rest of the game. Unless you could come up with some believable way for a Lich to masquerade as a human, I don't think it could work - and if work on the Lich would damage the amount of time, effort, and creativity placed in more traditional monster-player-transformations (Vampirism and Lycanthropy), then certainly drop the Lich idea.

In the book Immortal Blood (I think) in Oblivion there is a preference to Skyrim vampires living under ice lakes and being able to reach through the ice to grab people. That's a starting point for figuring out how to improve vampires in Skyrim, and distinguish them from Cyrodiil vampires

Show's what you know, liches can disguise themselves to look normal in public.

Anyway, I'd love to be a lich, especially an Argonian lich.

It would be a very awesome easter egg if there's a cooking recipe that combines those items, and the resulting dish kills you.

Actually, as far as aesthetics go, Vampires and Liches are just as recognisable. Both ugly. Oblivion's Vampires blended in, because that was the clan of Vampire in Cyrodiil. Daggerfall and Morrowind both had permanently ugly characters.

I'm pretty sure the only other vampires that can blend in are:

The Bonsamu: Appear to be normal in normal circumstances, but the moment candlelight (and I assume any kind of fire) hits thier face, you'll see them for what they are. This means that the obviously can't venture in the daytime, but at night they have to steer clear of civilisation, as there are candlelights and torches everywhere. Unless they sneak/stay away from people/hide thier face.

The Keerilth: I'm assuming they're ugly usually, as there's no mention of it, and they can take a mist form. They hide by "possessing" children and posing as them for years. I doubt we'd actually see this because of how squeemish everyone is over children.

Both of these are native to Valenwood. We'll (hopefully) actually see the Skyrim specific clan, the Volkihar. They drag victims under the water through sheets of ice. Rather impressive, if I do say so myself. I'm intrigued to see how they handle it.

But yeah, I doubt we'll be able to blend in so easily. Gets kinda old to have pretty much the same vampires in each game. And they have such great lore ready for them.

I just remembered that Archliches blend really well into society, they're the second most powerful type of lich too.

If history is any indication, they will handle it by not including the ability in the game.
