Am I the only one of these forums who loves FO3?

Fallout 3 is my favourite Fallout game, and I played the originals first.

Yes it is just nostalgia that causes me to believe that Fallout 1/2 had a vastly superior character system, much better writing, a combat system, that while imperfect to say the least, at least reflected the skills of my character as opposed to my skill at FPS games, NPCs that are actually interesting rather than just a path to inventory screens or placeholders for quest dialogue, a believable game world, meaningful choices and consequences, multiple ways to resolve quests, etc.

Clearly all that's just due to nostalgia I mean it's not like I still and own replay these games or something.

I bet you when Fallout 4 comes out people will be complaining and moaning how terrible it is and how amazing Fallout 3 is in comparison......... Sighhh

I thought it was the opposite. "This new thing is nowhere near as good as our old favourite game, they're dumbing it down! Dumbing down I tell you!' :P

To see these in action, visit the Skyrim section. Except people are still bashing Oblivion there :teehee:

Same thing will happen with Fallout 4, i would bet money on it.

Don't forget Okie, how's that a nostalgia when I have it here on HDD, and can play it anytime to make comparisons? ;)

It's nostalgia for our old feelings of nostalgia itself. Whenever we play nowadays we want to remember how it was before we played again after we stopped playing it.

I mean obviously we're being blinded by something.

Whatever makes our opinions less valid I guess.

Most of that is only an opinion. Make no mistake, I'm not saying you're not entitled to an opinion, nor am I bashing it, I am merely stating that is an opinion, nothing more nothing less.

FYI: I agree with most of what you say, but then again that is an opinion I am stating, my opinion. I am not and will not attempt to present my opinion as fact.

The two major reasons why I never completed fallout1/2 was for the fact that I was never a fan of isometric/turn based games back when fallout was new, and my opinion on that still hasn't changed after all these years; At 40 years old my feelings on that are not going to change now.

I loved the idea and story behind Fallout, but didn't care for how it was implemented.

It boils down to this for me: All the people who hate Bethesda and FO3 are ungrateful @~:L:L!!!ers ! They completely revitalised, revived and relaunched an almost forgotten game franchise. What do they get in return? [censored]ing about how their interpretation of the Fallout Universe wasn't EXACTLY like Fallout 1 and 2. "We want an isometric turn-based RPG based in the NCR/Boneyard area and we want it now!" In other words "Bethesda, you better just remake Fallout 1 and 2 with better graphics or else!"
The fact is, Fallout 3 is one of the best games EVER. Incredibly detailed, mysterious, rewarding, challenging and an absolute joy to explore. Without Bethesda buying the Fallout IP, we wouldn't have FO3, New Vegas, this forum or even the possibility of Fallout 4/Fallout 5 etc ......

Whew! Rant over.

To answer your question: No, you're definitely NOT the only person around here who loves Fallout 3. There's a reason it's sold millions of copies and been a hit in every country it was released in: IT ROCKS :foodndrink:

Sure most of it is opinion because in the end everything about the quality and worth of any creative work is going to be opinion. I think it's opinion well founded in fact that I could back up quite easily but in the end it's still opinion.

However I don't see the need for the implication that opinions on this matter that disagree with your own are just due to bias.

If I honestly felt grateful that a company revived a computer game in order to make a lot of money I would be worried about myself.

They completely revitalised, revived and relaunched an almost forgotten game franchise.

So forgotten they spent a fair sum of money acquiring the IP and considered it a safe bet to make a major game out of. Fact is Fallout was amongst the most widely regarded RPG franchises in recent memory, it was an intellectual property sought by many companies and if Bethesda hadn't revived it someone else would've.

What do they get in return? [censored]ing about how their interpretation of the Fallout Universe wasn't EXACTLY like Fallout 1 and 2.

Yeah I'm sure [censored]ing on forums just ruins those poor Bethesda developers day. I know I shouldn't be staggered by this anymore but this false notion that developers are entitled to only positive feedback is crazy to me. Truth is they received near universal critical acclaim and made a game that was a wild financial success something tells me they can handle some negative feedback on random forums.

"We want an isometric turn-based RPG based in the NCR/Boneyard area and we want it now!" In other words "Bethesda, you better just remake Fallout 1 and 2 with better graphics or else!"

Nice strawman you have there. Bit unbelievable but hey what's the point of making one if you're not going to run all the way with it? No one has, or had, any issues with the idea of changes in Fallout. The issue was importing another, quite different series' gameplay and design goals wholesale into Fallout and calling it inevitable and natural.

And they did all out of the charity of their hearts too. We should get on our knees and thank them and never explain our issues with their games or why we may have thought they didn't make a good Fallout game. That's just ungrateful.
