Major help needed

HI there guys, I am seriously confused and need some help.

I bought a new laptop recently, its an Acer i7, 4gb ram, ATI Radeon HD 5650 graphics card, specs as you will know are cool for Fallout 3.

I have got teh game installed, have started a new game fine. Made it out the vault and got to Megaton without encountering any enemies. Ive had a look round and have been speaking to people without a single hitch or even a glimmer. But then......I go out into the wilderness, find an enemy, go to hit it with my police baton and a split second before I hit it the game freezes completely (with sound still playing) and the only way to start again is to restart the laptop.

I have checked the drivers, downloaded the latest patch and made sure the settings are all ok (according to the readme file)

Has anyone had this or can anyone help? I find it strange that it works fine until just before I hit something. Most problems I have seen are crashing on start up or new game. I have seen posts about sound codecs and sound cards, which to me might make sense as I wonder if the sound of me hitting the enemy is whats causing the problem?

Im not very great with computers I wont lie, but any advice would be appreciated. I really want to be able to play fallout on my laptop.

THanks guys
