Big Poll - ROMANCE

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 7:17 pm

I don't mind it at all. Personally, I would rather do it in real life and romance feels hollow in a video game, but I don't really care.

4. I strongly disagree. Bethesda has awesome writers, you really can't make Morrowind or Oblivion so popular and GOTY with terrible writers. You just can't.

Hm. It looks as if, as time goes on, votes on romance polls tend to come down more in favour than against.

No idea if this is because people who aren't in favour are confident it won't be in, and so feel less need to make their voices heard, or because more people in favour are coming to the forums.

Personally I'm in favour. I think it could add to the storytelling, and could add some humour and variety to the questing and dialogue. Of course, if Bethesda did put something like this in (which I'm almost 100% certain they won't :(), they might make the most appalling cringe-fest out of it. Then again, before we saw the videos of the dragons, how many people thought they'd be as awesome as they are :)?

Romance is one of the things that were missing. In such a big world with hundreds (thousand?) of npcs it feels artificial not having this option. The more options, the better.

I noticed that too :D
"Hell no" was a popular answer not long ago. Might be a little bit of bandwagon as well. I remember it was the same with Skyrim as the next province, as soon as the Skyrim trademark thing was hinted, Skyrim took over in the province popularity polls.

I am myself a fan of romance. In books, in games. It just makes sense to have deeper relationships in a fantasy world. And if you are given the option to skip it, all for the better.

Then why wasn't Fallout 3's main quest epic, something that we would want in other BGS games like Skyrim.

This game doesn't need any type of controversey nor does it need to be a copy cat of all the other RPG games out there. This feature will not help Skyrim out if it's in the game, I'll use it if it's in but I won't be happy because TES isn't about Romance it's about Exploration, and being your own character. Sure this feature will probably be optional but do we really need it in the game. I mean romance type stuff in other RPG's aren't excatly great.

TW2 did it good, Origins was meh, DA2 was terrible, ME1 was well done and fit that game perfectly, ME2 was having the camel hides it's head in the sand, Fable yeah need I say more. Fallout 3 didn't have it and that game turned out pretty well, Oblivion didn't have it and that game even with it's flaws turned out great, Reckoning's not going to have it and that games probably going to be really good. This is a feature that we don't need and it's not going to help Skyrim out long term I'm sorry it won't.

How is a feature that grants 'terribly hollow' character relations in an RPG a waste of a resource ?

fixed. :whistling:

btw: The reason romance is winning in the poll is probably because most romance-haters don't bother to complain in all these countless threads.

Call of Duty isn't an RPG mate. The Sims or Madden have also been GOTY, but no RPG with terrible writers could ever be a great GOTY game like Morrowind or Oblivion.

Think before posting, or don't post at all.

English isn't my first language too mate! It's a real pity whatever you wrote is completely unintelligible to me, really.

What I was saying is that if you are going to justify the lack of the 'I don't care' option by having us commit to pro-romance why is there not a 'don't care' poll option for specifics such as different race relationships etc.

I was saying you should change the polls as others like me who don't care whether it is in or not will skew results for the other poll questions. If we don't care then we aren't going to have a proper answer to it meaning results aren't accurate. I was suggesting you changed the poll to help your cause. Perhaps I wasn't very articulate but you don't need to get all butthurt and condescending.

Grow up.

I'll only accept it if I know for certain that it won't take out anything else from the game like the examples someone posted previously. If I still have the freedom to kill, steal and be a dike/ally to NPC's then I'm happy. I still think romance is pointless, but if Bethesda want to continue to head towards the "larger audience" then there is bugger all I can do :sadvaultboy:

unlike some people I don't freak out over optional digital romance, I mean guys get over yourself.

its OK to to have your own svcky opinion, but we don't have to take any of it :D

Ever stopped to think that console gamers won't care much for your "svcky" opinion either? who do you think Skyrim is being made for first and foremost?

I'm not forcing people to vote, and i'm certainly NOT forcing people to commit to pro-romance.

This poll is for those that care, so I don't find the need to add "I don't care" or "I don't understand" as options.

If you "don't care" then... don't vote.

I see your point, really, but since I took time to create this poll, I get to decide the options. If you think this poll is improvable, please create your own poll!

Grow up

It was also semi-confirmed in the new German interview with Todd Howard. As long as its not a main thing and they do it their own way(IE: not lionhead or bioware) then I think it will be good. Bethesda knows what they're doing.

This poll has been created in order to allow us to understand what the majority believes, so... let the forums speak!

As your 'Big Poll' is meant to be representative of what the forum feels then you should have implemented that option. The overall majority may not be for or against and wouldn't mind it being in the game providing it wasn't forced upon us or having NPCs mistake what you say as romantic. Again I will reiterate that I was merely suggesting that you include a 'I don't care' option to get a more accurate result for your poll and be more representative of the forums beliefs.

I told you to grow up because of your condescending attitude towards people in this thread.

I personally don't mind it in the game as long as it doesn't impact me when I am playing the game. For instance it could have the issue of NPCs miscontruing what I say as me flirting i.e. in Mass Effect 2 where this seems to pop up too much. I could be pro or against depending on how it is handled (if it is even in the game). If they are going to include romance I'd hope it would be a deep mechanic rather than a superfluous addition to the game otherwise it could taint the quality of the overall product.

I don't want there to be this woman/male NPCs that will fall in love with any male/female player character you choose.. there needs to be something unique for each character and race and such, no problem with khajiits falling in love with wood elves or something, but that there wouldn't be an NPC that works as the lover for everyone. So I voted for all NPCs, let us choose who we'd want to know better, but without a guarantee of them being interested at all.

Well, I'm pro-romance because I think if anyone can pull it off, it's Bethesda. Fable's versopn was horrible, BioWare's was better but still fairly bad. If it does go in, it really can't have the "repeatedly press button to raise disposition, repeat until finished" feel to it which was the horrible, horrible way that The Sims and Fable did it. It makes no sense for someone to go from despising you to worshipping the ground you walk on in five minutes. Of course, it has to be sped up to some extent in games, but not nearly so much as most developers do it. As I said, if anyone can do it, it's Bethesda

P.S: NO ROMANCE QUESTS! Thank you.

Would you say that was a serious flaw in Fable? I wouldnt. I loved fable even with the whole "Relationship" thing :P.

Different poll = Different thread, so no, it won't get closed.

Anyway, if Pie Guy does make a better poll and moderators believe only one must exist, i'll tell them to close this one.

I really see your point Pie Guy, and I respect your opinion.

I left that option out in order to "force" people to side with one of the options.

Why? Well... Those that are pro-romance would argue that the "i don't care" votes favor them, and the anti-romance will do the same.

At the end, both sides will still consider themselves the majority, and the poll will be useless.

I am aware many people don't care about romance, and others don't really understand what video game romance means, or how they could implement it. But, I insist, i'm only interested in the opinion of those who HAVE an opinion. If you really don't care, and think all the discussion is pointless, please don't vote.

Of course, I might be wrong.

If you really consider this poll to be important, but very improvable, please create your own poll.

I told you to grow up because of your condescending attitude towards people in this thread.

I just read some of my posts and... yes, I must agree some of my recent comments have been quite negative and even aggressive. Excuse me for that.

Meh, I've avoided romances at all costs. Turns my game into a soap opera or night time fanatsy drama.

I don't even want the option in my game since I'd never use it....put the time into developing other parts of the game.

First, to the OP, thanks for the poll.

My thoughts with respect to romance (I didn't say bone jumping) revolve around it providing another aspect for roleplay.

I am pro-play the game the way you want.

Further, the inclusion of romance in TES may encourage more female, as well as some additional male players to buy and play the game, regardless of the gender they choose to roleplay.

That said, I am waitng to see if this feature will be confirmed.

Agreed, There are much more interesting things to be implimented. Werewolves for example, I don't see why people would want this over other features that could be implimented.
Edit: Not that anyone has said that yet, I'm just saiyan.
