Multi GPU % usage problem in multiplayer

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2011 10:17 pm

Here recently at random times during multiplayer only, my sli cards will go from 97-98% usage to 50-60% usage. Sometimes it will happen after hours of play, other times after only a couple games. What's causing this? This has never happened before and my nvidia control panel setting is still at "prefer max performance" instead of "adaptive" for power management mode. Tried selecting "let the 3d application decide" with same results. Is anyone else having this issue? When the usage drops off my k/d ratio becomes very bad, almost like I start lagging or something. I'm using same drivers as I have been - 275.33. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you give us your setup? What cards? etc?

I've run Crysis 2 in SLI with EVGA Gtx 295 and now with EVGA GTX 590. What your pointing at does seem unusual. Is there another program running when this happens? Perhaps a scan or another CPU intensive .exe?

What are you using to measure GPU stats?

phenom II 955 B/E 3.82
4gb ddr3 1687
2x gtx480 s/c 800/2000
antec 1200 power supply

Using evga precision to monitor gpu usage and can see only about 80% on cpu and about 40% on ram via g15 keyboard display. Only apps running are fraps, virus program, LCD manager (keyboard), and asus xonar audio center. Cpu and cards are not overheating or anything like that. I reduced all overclocks to see if that was causing the problem but it still happens. I've been running this setup since crysis came out without problems. I also checked to see if a virus scan or windows update was active during this time, but they were not running.

GPU usage drop can be pointed directly to the CPU when in SLI, i have 460's, and please understand i was the most hardheaded person and denied my CPU wasnt fast enough, I had a quad core at 3.2, funny thing is your trying to run 480's, which indefinitely points to a CPU bottleneck, which then I swapped to a 2500k at 4.7, wouldn't you know both GPU's are now at 99% all the time? Also faster ram really helps, and I mean REALLY helps. Try OC your ram to 1850......... well it depends what brand you have..........and set your timings too. Neve run in auto, it can **** up a perfectly good game, make sure speed step isnt on either.

By chance Mr. Finger, tell me your REAL FPS, not what you can achieve, its crucial to see what component is bottlenecking.

EDIT: I noticed you trying to run FRAPS, uber fail, your CPU might still be bottle necking, but its probably your HD slowing the system down, is the game on Digital?
