The true Nerevarine

Post » Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:29 am

in morrowind when you start the game you chose what ever character you thought was coolest but consider if instead of a video game elder scrolls 3 was a book or a movie (im mainly refering to the main quest) what race gender and class do you think the true incarnate should be.

p.s im in no way saying you shouldnt be able to make what ever kind of character you want

Nerevar was a Chimer, but since they don't exist anymore, Dunmer would be the most likely.

Doesn't the prophecy explicitly state that he will be an "Outlander", which means no race is actually more likely than any other.

Yes, but the question from OP was ....
if instead of a video game elder scrolls 3 was a book or a movie (im mainly refering to the main quest) what race gender and class do you think the true incarnate should be.

Dunmer is the most likely when considering the lineage of Neravarine, just ask any Ashlander or anyone from the Nerevarine Cult... they wouldn't believe anyone but a Dunmer being the Nerevarine (until you prove them wrong, that is ;) )

And I rarely play Dunmer, so I'm not just being a "fan-boy." I've had a Khajiit and Orc Neravarine too.

I think that the fact that the Nerevarine was prophecised to be an outlander makes Dunmer the least likely race. In a movie they'd probably make the Nerevarine into a male Imperial.

I've played many other races, but Dunmer is my usual default. Until, in Oblivion, they had the same voices as Bosmer. My awesome Dunmer squeeling like a damn Bosmer was...unacceptable.

Anyway, back on topic:

I've seen many times before where posters have argued that the game tries to "goad" you into playing as a Dunmer. They're easily the most versatile race in Morrowind, with stat bonuses to a wide variety of stats allow you to play as any variety of warrior, thief or mage type character. They offer the largest variety of faces and hair styles for customization of your character, and appeal to many people's sense of awesome with their deep ashy voices, gray skin and red eyes.

For these reasons, the Neravarine is often thought to default to a Dunmer Male in most people's minds.

Now if this were made into a movie, I could see a Male Imperial being substituted for ease's sake.

That they have the most faces can more easily be explained by the game taking place in morrowind. Which means most of the npcs will be dunmer, which means they need more variety. As to a movie it could go either way. Maybe something could be done with an argonian or khajiit, just for the slavery aspect.
