my idea of how to improve Hand to Hand combat

i am just using Ps3 controls as an example.

R1-Punch
Hold R1- Lunging attack (causes enemy to stagger and can break through blocks)
L1-Block
Press R1, while holding down L1- Grab
R1 while grappling- Strong hit (knocks back and does heavier damage then a lunging attack) Becomes Take Down with high Hand to Hand. (causes enemy to take considerable damage and fall to the ground)
L1 while grappling-simply push the enemy, does no damage but stuns them, and increases damage taken for a few seconds (at higher levels it does do damage and stuns them for longer)
L1 and R1 while in grapple- with high hand to hand you can try to attempt a disarm, a successful disarm leaves the enemy helpless.

Just a thought on how Hand to Hand could be easily made more enjoyable without over-complicating things.

of course it would help if melee was slightly slower, made a more enjoyable sound when making contact with skin, and cause the enemy to flinch a bit when being hit. also more hit animations instead of just jabs would be great.

Or just have different manners of hand-to-hand you could be proficient in.
Styles like basic brawling where you'd just pummel your enemy with fists, maybe a more precise pressure-point style, a more powerful boxing style, etc.

Removing hand to hand completely was a bit of a lazy move on Bethesdas part..They could have kept the combat similar ( except have the ability to kick for a true Martial Artist type class ) but just add gauntlets like leather -> leather studded -> leather with claws -> ect ect -> Dragon Claw Gauntlets :).

They didn't remove the mechanic, just the skill.

I think the should be able to claw and bite instead of punch. Races should be more unique. Lizards should get tail whips and eating dead things. :toughninja:

An interview confirmed Hand-To-Hand is in...

I'd love the ideas put forth in this thread, but how to keep it balanced? Grappling's always a nuisance.

I also think Khajiit need different H2H rules from other races.

i think that Kajhit should do more damage in melee, and i think that Argonians should get i perk that makes there melee attacks poison enemys.

theoretically each race should have different styles with kahjiit being more asian styles of martial arts,

nords and orcs could have styles more geared towards brute strength

maybe redguards would use more grapples as they are general proficient warriors

just a few ideas :)

Agree. And Bosmers shouldnt do any damage if they use hand to hand, just push the npc's around.

I will be greatly appreciative of anything from what h2h combat use to be. I would love to use it, but it seems to not be much of an effective weapon choice at mid-higher levels.

With timed blocking, I hope there are dodging/grappling moves. The Khajiit claws idea is great.



Bosmers shouldnt do any damage if they use hand to hand, just push the npc's around.

If biting, they should spread disease. That would definitely get me to try a beast race. Although getting the disease on an argonian would be a pain... and the disease would have to more than just drain skill effects...

Plus, adding the bite mechanic would be useful for werebeast and maybe vampires (not sure how biting works in the lore for them) or for other races who have contracted some powerful but maybe not disfiguring disease, like rabies.

adding bites would work as a grapple attack, i was thinking maybe the perk would maybe cause the argonian to secrete a small amount of poison when pressure is put on there claws. it would simply be a damage over time.

Heh, well once they have a disease they aren't maybe?. But no, it wasn't a suggestion based on lore, just on the fact that they have sharper teeth. Really I just want to be able to use disease as a kinda area of effect poison and I'll make any excuse. But I'm sure I can find a different way to get that in the game through mods if I have to.

But poisons on claws, all for that even if they can't bite :)

And the races shouldn't have vastly disparate H2H abilities, except the Khajiit and their emphasis on unarmed strikes over armed combat.

'Martial Arts' doesn't only pertain to Asian fighting styles.
It means 'Arts of War' so it could mean literally any fighting style used for combat, from Judo to Boxing.

I know that, I just forgot. I don't really pay attention to boxing much. Kick boxing sounds cool, though.

Why is that?
They are different races, and bar that, they all have completely different cultures and lifestyles, as well as living in different climates.

Saying they shouldn't be vastly different is like if every culture on Earth ate grilled pork and used Karate for self-defense.
