Is this worth buying just for the multiplayer?

Post » Tue Jun 21, 2011 6:59 pm

I'm in need of a good new online FPS shooter to play. I played this when the demo was out, and I played Black Ops while it was temporarily free recently. With Steam's huge summer sales coming up soon, I'm trying to decide what to get. My main concern is getting bored too quickly. As a last addon question, does Crysis 2's multiplayer have lots of customization and features similar to call of duty? Feel free to give your opinions of the 2, or any other games you recommend.

Customization? Not so much, just 2 camos and you got them doing the suit reboot(Not sure,i'm at work everyday and i don't have so much time for playing)
There aren't so much weapons and this game is going to be a play4free since the last DLC where you have a new weapon and the smoke grenade.
Of course, you must pay for DLCs.

you will get your lovers and haters and due to the many problems the game has had its more haters on the forum.
they are slowly working on the problems but its taking its time.

imo the game is great. ive bought both dlc packs but not many players on them yet, maybe a few hundred instead of a few thousand.

we still have dx11 to come and the much anticipated mod tool so players can build their own maps and upload them.

@OP, I was in the same boat as you. I LOVE customization and uniqueness. This game has very little in concern to aesthetic appeal, but there is a module system and gun manipulation system very similar to that of CODs. I picked this game for my next big FPS to play because of it's insanely fast pace, it's lush graphics, and it's niche nano suit that really alters how you would play a normal shooter. If you are concerned with getting pored, the PUG community is growing so that we'd have PUG groups like once a week, and tournaments are also starting to come about, so all you need to do, is make some friends in game after like 50 hours of game time, and you're set for 3 years. :D

I bought it just because of the multiplayer after playing the demo, if there weren't the demo then I probably wouldn't have bought it, for me the multiplayer made it worth it.

The SP is good but the MP is fantastic, no too difficult to find DLC 2 servers either.

I pre-ordered, got the Limited Edition and bought both DLC's.. Just done my 1st reboot and it's pretty much the only game I play.. Havn't finished the SP as I've spent too many hours in MP.. I feel that it is worth the money spent.. I've been lucky to have worked around most of the issues players are experiencing.. can't wait for DX11 so I can re-start my SP campaign in all it's glory..

I just wish they would remove TACTICAL OPTIONS AVAILABLE!

I would say that the multiplayer is worth it but it seems I am not of the norm on the forums . I have bought both DLCs and am happy with both. The main thing that you need to stay interested is friends you can continue to game with for months/years to come, be it a clan or just a team you are accustomed to.

Thanks for all the great replies. I guess what I wonder now is, will it go on a possible sale soon? Amazon currently has it for $40, which is pretty good. Also, the first person who replied said that he thinks the game will be going free to play. Anyone know if that's true?

Nop he say F2play because of the last DLC (wich bring a gun a nade and some maps).
As for now the server population seems somewhat stabilized around a thousand of of people, full serv 24h/24 really depends on where you live.
Also don't expect to find many variation in gametype most serv are crash-site and Team instant action.

I won't lie to you but there's a bunch of very good players and you will die an awful lot if you start playing right now.

As for customization, you can play it as a semi-fast-paced shooter, a more sneaky sniper approach, the classic tactical shooter or just air-stomp people to death (that's where the real fun is).

Main changes from the demo:

- Severely reduced nanovision range.
- Moderate guns tweaks.
- Longer rounds.
- Less cheaters (Especially true on euro servs).

no not until cloak is nerfed and the disconnecting stat loss issue is fixed

Its a regular problem for people including i cant enjoy a game if i keep getting randomly disconnected then lose stats from 2-3 games there have been several ranks i achieved multiple times before i was finally able to get there and the stats saved properly

second cloak......

pretty much ingame tactic of chose commonly know as the cookie cutter build is

Armor: Energy Transfer/ Nano Recharge
Stealth: Stealth enhance
Power: Mobility Enhance
Weapon: Scarab/feline/marshall silenced

basicly stealth enhance reuced energy drain while in cloak and mobility reduces energy from sprinting this almost triples how much time a person can stay cloaked. And with energy transfer if they kill someone they get ALL THERE ENRGY SO THEY CAN JUST RECLOAK AGAIN. if they have nano recharge. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS SIT FOR 3 Secs AND THEY HAVE ALL THERE ENERGY.

so basically the games nothing but a massive cloak war

i would say wait

Watch Ghost in the Shell SAC, it will help you with tactics to deal with cloaked oponents. Well more towards the end of the first series, when they have to fight opponents using thermo optical camo as well. Also the end of the second series when they fight a special forces squad with thermo optical camo.

An awesome map feature, would be some areas where you could shoot the water mains or something, so there is water on the ground or in the air to make their cloak less effective.
