Elder Scrolls Bestiary question

Post » Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:41 am

So i was wondering what creatures live in the other provinces. So far i would assume in Hammerfell there are giant scorpions and griffons (cause griffons live in arid places like hammerfell.) Ive read that centaurs and hippogriffs are in Valenwood, and i would assume black panthers and giant tree/ jungle spiders would be in Valenwood also. Elsweyr probably has Rocs maybe? Black marsh tons of different swamp and rainforest creatures. As far as i know Nirn basically has all the creatures Earth has and more, being the mythical creatures that is. What im asking is basically has there been somewhere that talks about the creatures in all of the provinces cause the elder scrolls bestiary is really cool. I just like pinpointing where creatures live in the elder scrolls world. And also when an elder scrolls heads to hammerfell (And i mean an official elder scrolls not a spinoff like Redguard) i hope there are griffons cause id like to see tons of mythical creatures on Nirn. :)

TIL has an Elder Scrolls http://imperial-library.info/content/bestiaries, though its still in progress. It should include all creatures (with the exception of anything only in the mobiles or in books). You can also check the http://imperial-library.info/content/bestiaries through the wayback machine.

Dance in the Fire and The Argonian Account go into pretty good detail about the wildlife of Valenwood and Black Marsh, respectively, though they are fictional stories and not entirely reliable accounts.

Morrowind has many creatures that are unique to the series rather than being existing fantasy beasts, so it's not unreasonable that the other provinces also have strange and original beasts never seen before.

I remember in some report about a battle in Elswyr that there are specific, less-humanoid species of Khajiit, like the Pahmar and Pahmar-raht that inhabit it's jungles.

Yeah ik about the pahmer and such i just want to know about some of the more generic creatures of the provinces. and also if in the lore of the elder scrolls if they talk about griffons and hippogriffs and other mythical creatures. I think they talk about hippogriffs living in Valenwood but i havent heard about griffons and sea creatures. I think it would make sense if griffons would be in Hammerfell cause of the arid Nevada like deserts where the griffons would build nests in the peak cliffs.

There are Sea-Drakes off the coast of Blackmarsh, which are basically described as mosasaurs. And yeah Hippogriffs are mentioned for Valenwood, though I've never heard of griffens being mentioned. I think you have pretty good chance if Hippogriffs are supposed to be in Valenwood though. If anything, I'd guess that they'd live in Skyrim, though being part lion might better place them in Valenwood/Elsweyr.

Yeah i was thinking that they would either be in Elsweyr or Hammerfell because ive looked up history of the griffon and it says they usually live in semi arid places and are enemies with horses which is why hippogriffs are so rare. And also yes i have read the novel "The Infernal City" and saw them talk about Sea drakes but im talking about even more sea creatures like what i was thinking was in Skyrim u could go into the Sea of Ghosts and see the Kraken, either A: u actually see the kraken or B: U go to the border of the sea of ghosts and u see a giant shadow of a squidlike creature, and also giant sea serpents. And also does the game explain if there are more unicorns? cause i would be kinda pissed if we killed the one and only unicorn lol

If there were griffins, I'd definitely agree that Hammerfell would be the place to find them.

Oh, and there are definitely (or at least, were) more Unicorns than just that one in Oblivion; Unicorn Horns were a common item in Daggerfall.

Well thats good cause sometimes i felt like i was destroying a pretty awesome species when completing that quest.
